5 Famous Coins Collectors Can Buy for Less Than $50

There is a group of United States coins that are "part of the collective American conscious yet aren’t budget breakers, either. These are coins that, often through sociocultural lore passed from one generation to the next, are irrepressibly linked to Americana even many decades after their production."

One of those is the 1943 Steel Lincoln Cent, even pieces reaching PCGS MS66 carry a current PCGS Price Guide value of $45. See the rest of the group through the link below.

On Facebook, they used the word rare instead of famous.
They must have seen this article and used it to promote their wares.

    very sensible advice.
Great for a new collector or even an experienced collector.

Or as a wonderful present for the youngsters or senior relatives.

Even better to combine such purchases with a older rattler PCGS slab which still does not yet sell for a big premium. Plus get really nice ones that can get CAC stickering afterwards.

A future double or even triple play.candidate.

Guaranteed to get as much interest at a coin show as million dollar coin sets!

i will be there admiring them too.

But my advice will blow past the $50 budget per coin by a few dollars.

I believe I can buy a 1943 steel cent, IHC and 38-D Buffalo nickel I like for $50 or less. Not sure I can do that for a Walker and almost certainly not at current prices for a Morgan dollar.

Silly me. I had to pay “a bit more” than $50 each for these coins in my Registry Dansco 7070 set, lol.

My collecting “Pride & Joy” is my PCGS Registry Dansco 7070 Set:

All collectors should have at least one of each in their collection. Even if none are series collections, just because they are iconic American coins. Cheers, RickO

This is a great article with some great coins. It could be more effective if the coins shown were in the budget discussed.

For example, I can’t see that Buffalo nickel pictured as a $50 coin. It looks like the following $40,000 coin:

This happened in the affordable classic commem post as well where the coins shown looked like they were worth 10s of thousands.

    Am I mistaken?

I do like the steel cent example.

It would be great to link to each coin’s cert verification page to see the PCGS Price Guide value for each coin shown.

Lol... I got at least ten of the 38d.

Easily found well struck. Makes for a great grading set.

Good article, there are a lot of iconic coinage designs that can be purchased for under $50.

I believe you are one among many. More than 100,000 graded so far.

Steel cents are a good choice for the article as coins with similar looks cost less than $50. The following PCGS MS66 recently sold for $$30.19.
