Please don't leave us hanging - can you explain why you state that?

I posted this in the other 2021 Silver proof set thread:

Well if you bought the 2 proofs when they were available from the mint they were $73 each so that's $146 right there. that leaves the other 4 coins for $22.50 each. The Kennedy is selling on eBay (raw) for an average of around $50. so leaves the 2 quarters and the dime at a price of $13 each (which I haven't looked up their selling prices yet) - so bullion wise it's obviously not a good deal - but numismatically I don't see a problem.

It's not that this price is any higher than the prior coin sets. It's just that if you bought the prior sets, there is no point in buying this set, other than the label of you are a label collector. When assessing the "rarity" of the coins themselves, there aren't 50,000 of them but 200,000+

I thought it would sell out fast because of my dim view of the flippers.

But if no one is around to flip to then you get what we got

I didn't buy any prior sets that is why I bought this one. Must there always be a reason to buy things other than "I just liked it?"

Not at all. But you have to understand our comments as coming from people who either bought the prior sets and/or were looking for value either to flip or hold.

You like it. Buy it. No one is going to argue with that. But you should buy it knowing it will likely be selling for under $200 in the near future like the prior incarnations of these sets.

If you think 2.876oz silver for $273 needs to be explained.......you must have been a buyer. Why not question ALL posters calling into question $273 for 2.876oz silver??? Not only a buyer, but musta been at the keyboard waiting at 11:55amET

    I'll come up with something.

Jeez - funny how others that don't know me, or what I have in my collection try to tell me what I should or should not do. Sad. And actually Jack - it was $235

I don't think most of us care what anyone else is doing. I assume you are referring to @NotSure?

We are largely just speaking of our experiences with these things. It's not meant to be personal. There are a LOT Of things people buy around here that I don't think are a good value. Sometimes I say it - 09-S VDB's - but in the end I always say to buy what you like, have fun with it, and expect it to be worth less than you paid for it.

But most of us are coin collectors - not dealers or flippers. Who really cares about prices when you finally got a coin you wanted????????

Pretty much everyone. Haven't you noticed how often the "value" question gets asked? And how often does the word "investment" get used?

I think everyone had an intentional burial or two. But, unfortunately, people are obsessed with value which really takes some of the fun away, in my opinion.

How many threads have been started over the price of silver or gold? Whale coins? CAC pricing? Etc

I bought one on Friday morning at the start, took all of 90 seconds... I have all these coins already but I don't care, I bought just about every silver piece that the mint had this year. The price don't concern me, I just wanted it

I have sets 2016 thru 2021, considering sending in this one unopen for grading, not sure yet...
