A couple of hard to find errors that I just got back from PCGS.

Dropped letter "C" by CENT.
This one is a little tougher to see but there is a dropped "S" in the "E" of UNITED.

So how does a letter drop like that?

I can not say that I have seen those errors before. I can not imagine how many have passed through unsuspecting hands.

Grease from the press fills in a letter in the die and takes on the shape of the letter and hardens. Eventually it pops out of the die, probably stuck to a just-struck coin, only to fall off that coin and back onto the lower die. A new planchet feeds in atop it and when it is struck the shape of the grease gets embossed into the coin it becomes.

Really nice!! I’ve never seen anything like that!
@CaptHenway Thanks for the explanation! I have something new to look for even if it is very rare...

Great finds.
Will be paying a little more attention on my next cent roll search.

Cool errors!
Looks like there might be a bit of retained fill on the C.
Very nice!
Learned something today... cool beans

You are welcome.
One other question....
On these errors, can the dropped material also be metal? In which case it would be a retained struck thru?
Will I ever get over learning new things on this board???
Great finds, I think!
bob
If I understand the question correctly, that would be struck through a struck fragment.
