His son has carried on the business. John was a fair and pleasant coin dealer. His comment was always "I have the coins". And he did.

I bought many coins from him through the years, including my first 1914-D Lincoln and 1937-D Three Leg.

Seems like he enjoyed the hobby as much as any collector.

There was an old timer who only needed a 1926-S Buffalo Nickel to complete his set. At the same time, John was browsing a church sponsored local coin show and spotted one that the seller had listed as Fine. According to John, the coin was fully VF, and he bought it.

He ended up selling it to the old timer and said that the guy lit up like a Christmas tree when he bought it.

    Rest easy, John.

    I miss you.

    Pete

John was one of the best and loved his work as much as anyone alive. He also was always willing to engage in conversation and his favorite topic was anything about coins. He was always quick with a fair offer or a fair quote on anything. The one thing he never did was sell something less than market.

John was just one of those individuals for whom no words can do justice.

Stop in and meet his son who is continuing the tradition.

I was just happening to search my dad. Reminiscing. Thank you all for the kind words. He truly was an amazing person. Paul is doing very well running the store. He learned everything he knows from dad and takes a lot of pride in it just like dad did.

    Sincerely,
Kate Hodson (John’s daughter and Paul’s sister).

Good afternoon, Miss Hodson. I was an old coin friend of your father from when I worked for Harlan Berk in downtown Chicago. Occasionally I would make the round of the shops and visit your Dad's place. I always spent too much time there just shooting the breeze.

He was well like and well respected in the coin community. I never heard a bad word about him.
