Maybe I Should Officially...............

USSID17USSID17 Posts: 1,264 ✭✭✭✭✭

.................introduce myself.

Probably like many of you, I got hooked when I was a kid with a paper-route. My pants would be falling down, with pockets of change! Thinking back on it, I "wish" I could have kept all that silver!! :)

I pretty much got away from it for a good 20 or 30 years... Just didn't have the disposable cash to burn on coins! I was to busy working on "real" investments...career, family, house, 401k, etc..

I'm not a professional or expert numismatist, dealer, trader, investor or grader.......................I'm just a hobbyist.

If I had to make a living from this coin stuff, I would have starved years ago!

Just hoping to add a little value to some of the conversations here.....but most of all learn more from you guys.

Happy to be here!

    Welcome to the party.

That's the normal journey for anyone who wasn't a career numismatist.

Welcome to the Party!! You will indeed learn a lot from the people that post here. Many have quite literally "written the book" on their areas of expertise in numismatics. Best, Leo

Well, nothing to outrageous or over the top. I'm sitting here thinking. I guess it's probably just American Classic & Modern coins.

Hmmm, favorite coin?? Man, that's not easy. That almost changes everyday. How about these for today.... But I love my entire type set!

Completing (or trying to complete) albums/sets. Lincoln's, Jefferson's, V Nickels, Mercs, Roosevelt's, Washington's, Walker's, Franklin's, Kennedy's (40 & 90%'ers), a Type Set (no gold) and random stuff in between. I've found quite a few Kennedy clad DDO's. I get a kick out of finding minor errors; clips, chips, struck thur's, off-cent strikes, clashes, etc..

I cherrypicked a 39-S DDO Washington Quarter from a straight graded MS63 PCGS slab. Not much added value but it was fun finding it. I broke it out and re-submitted it to ANACS. I know, ANACS is not one of the big boys but neither am I. I like their turn-around time, customer service and specials.

My sets pretty much end at 1964. Not really interested in the modern clad stuff.

I like consistent looking sets. Never cared for a killer luster MS66 next to an AG coin. I've actually taken out MS Walker's and Franklin's and replaced them with circulated ones to match the rest of the album.... If that makes sense. I guess it's all personal preference.

Always trying to upgrade. No problem or detailed coins. Trying to keep them all straight grade, problem free.

For whatever reason, I got hooked on the W quarter fad the past few years. I never thought I'd find one. I decided to go to the bank a few years ago and pick up some rolls just for the heck of it. Wouldn't you know, a bunch of W's popped out! To my surprise, I've been pulling W's from boxes (in my area) on a pretty regular basis ever since.... Although, it's been slowing down here lately.

I started looking more closely at the conditions of these W quarters. I decided to test my non-professional grading skills with ANACS, after seeing what's out there in the TPG'er pop reports and eBay sale prices. (not that I'm selling)

I've submitted several dozen over the past two years with ANACS's specials. Six have come back 67... which is good me. Still looking for that 68, like a lot of folks! I'm waiting for 10 Tallgrass W's to return from ANACS right now.

    Thanks for asking!

@USSID17.... Welcome aboard, again.... ;) Thanks for the background on your collecting interests. I also am a collector only.... And while I did some sets years ago (CC Morgans, Kennedy halves, Franklin halves etc.) I mainly just buy coins that attract me now....could be design, condition, type, date... some or all of those... Above all have fun...Nice motto in your icon. Cheers, RickO
