Why does one insert have RL initials and the other not?
Looks like initialling a correction made on the insert like one would do if making handwritten corrections in a contract. Proof that the correction was made by the original author.
Yep, probably from removing the FSNC from the dies. Here's the pics I took a while back of my SEGS slabbed set.
hey, thanks a lot for sharing photos of the originals - really like that the original dies were modified then used for these 2021 strikes
Since the "FSNC-2002" lettering is incuse on the struck tokens, that lettering would be raised up on the die such that it could be ground off. So that is how the recent release came to be, I assume.
Does anyone know how those dies were made in the first place ?
They do not have the typical look of Landis hand-engraved dies.

My set ended up being No. 46. Both coins are perfectly centered and I can't see the strong die work on the shoulder/collar seen on others. I am more than pleased.

Yes, he engraves all dies that he does.
I thought he only does hand engraving ?
The "1938" FSNC piece looks like a transfer process of some sort.

I don not believe so as they are all in the same position. But I will ask and get back to you
Mine came yesterday, picked it up today. Turns out I have #41.
I see the die scratches on the coat, but they are not objectionable on either piece. Not really noticeable to my old eyes without a loupe.
And I now understand why when I tried to add a nickel planchet piece, they were gone. I added the two piece set first and when I got to the nickel planchet piece, the page was gone and @Collector got the last one by mere seconds. Good for him! I'm not upset, but I did not expect the nickel planchet pieces to be so popular!
This will be a nice addition to my FSNC pair from 2002.
The question now is whether SEGS or any other TPGS will put these in holders so I can get them out of the flips. As a last resort, I'll self-slab them.

one of the biggest things that kept me from picking one of these up was Ron's waffling on what he was going to do w remaining stock, as stated in his fb video - it sounded like stowing em away and selling em later was on the table, * and that's fine *, but that def detracted from the desirability for me - if he would've said 'I'm going to melt down whatever remains after sales end', then I absolutely would've picked one up
that said, these nickels are incredibly beautiful, and appreciate the new owners for sharing theirs

The Indian Head Nickel, a couple posts above, looks cartoonish.
I just looked on the website and it is a tribute piece, and not a pattern.

Looks like the fineness isn't indicated anywhere on the piece, I feel like it should at least be on the edge.
