I believe this will be a big seller, and likely crash the system on the first day of sales. Cheers, RickO

I wish they allowed preorders. That would eliminate much of the crashing problems.

    A serious question, NOT snark ... :)

You are basically suggesting a different "first day of sales". Specifically, "available" ---> "available for pre-order".

On a 'popular' issue, wouldn't this approach just move the 'crash' from the official release to the start of the pre-order period?

    What am I missing?

I am in awe of the significance of this symbol of selfless service. I am grateful that I don't have a purple heart. Have a good day. Peace Roy

I had the distinct honour of speaking with a Purple Heart recipient from the Korean War this morning.

Nothing. That's exactly what would happen unless it became a lottery and then people would be mad when they lost that.

The National Purple Heart Hall of Honor Commemorative Coin Act concept is outstanding-- I am amazed that we have not done this sooner!

Would be nice if they created a pre-order queue for veterans with a PH.

I'm in for one, and I don't wish to sound disrespectful, but why do we think this is going to be popular enough to crash the mint's server? Less than one half of one percent of Americans actually serve.

Has the mintage even been announced?

That figure would represent 1,650,000....not to mention relatives and acquaintances buying as gifts... and add in just interested collectors.... And I would say there is more than enough to crash the site. Cheers, RickO

That would be an amazing outpouring of support for the project. However, I have not seen that level of interest in other commemorative coins with similar military themes. (WWII, US ARMY, MOH, INFANTRY, DISABLED VETERANS, etc.)

Barring a low mintage, I would think this one will follow suit.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I appreciate it. :)

  • Has anyone who purchased these coins gotten any shipping updates? They were supposed to start June 29th(except colorized dollar)

The mint should just mint to order. If 3000 or 300000 people ordered one that would be the mintage and there would be no rush to order that would crash the servers.

The latest dates I have seen are July 5 or 6, depending on which coin. I have pre-ordered the proof and uncirculated half dollars as well as the colorized silver dollar and uncirculated silver dollar. The colorized dollar presently shows July 15 for shipping.
