I'm thinking another Fake 09S-VDB on ebay, I got ripped off on one just like this one

Its got several bidders,
Its going off in like 17 hrs,
Like mine, its modern made, chemically toned to look aged (as I see it)
The period after the D in the V.D.B. is in the wrong position.

If the buyer finds out it's a fake, the seller may not have a choice but to take it back.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.
The problem comes if the buyer dosen't find out its fake until later on down the road.
Little different, but years ago, one of the old members in our coin club was talking about an 01-s quarter In VG+ he had bought for 400 back in the 80's. Finally brought it to the meeting one night when he decided it was time to sell, added MM.
I just don't understand - unless you know exactly what you're doing and/or absolutely 100% know and trust the seller , why would anyone buy a key (or expensive) date that's not in a reputable third-party holder?

A lot of new collectors aren't aware that there are many counterfeits in the marketplace.

Item seems to be gone now...
Our "friends" in the PRoC are very busy making literally any "coin" you want. if you ever get to HKG, it is easy for you to even place orders. Happily filled overnight and delivered to your hotel AM. perfectly aged, including bag marks and nicks. Now it is your problem getting these through customs. Or, even easier, order online.... they take CC's.
check it out and see how easy it is. Also very illegal. In Canada one "can get" up to 14 years in the klink just for possession. I think the US must have similar laws.
Did you open up a claim with ebay?

Oh, I know that - many of us paid our numismatic "dues" that way. My point is, anyone who frequents this forum ought to know better.

No, I got burnt on the purchase of an 09S VDB near a year ago and it was through help on this forum that made me VERY aware just how counterfeited some of these coins are. Sense then I had to recover from that bad deal, learn how to better spot an 09S VDB FAKE, make the plunge into acquiring a genuine one (did that).
But, in the process I guess I've gotten obsessed with spotting LIKELY fake on ebay. So, lately when I find them I post them on here for the experts to look at and for forum conversation, I do believe they're are folks on here that have ebay contacts and are far more of an official judge of counterfeits than me that can get the listings taking down, I'm learning enough that I'm becoming a bit of a front line filter in the likely FAKES, like this one in question, its from the same source (production) as the one I got ripped off on, same condition, same chemically colored (aged), and its not graded (slabbed). I bought my really nice FAKE for $500.00 and thus far I've gotten $200.00 back. > @2ndCharter said:
Before I came to this forum a year, I got fooled into the purchase of a FAKE 09S VDB exactly like the one linked to in the title post. So, I'm not even looking at buying one of these now, or ever. I pretty recently acquired a Slabbed, genuine one from a PCGS certify dealer for $900.00 So, now I I find myself from time to time looking for fakes 09S VDB's on ebay and posted links to them on here giving the experts the chance to check them out, have forum discussions about and work towards getting the listings taken down, who knows at this rate in the future I may become a 09SVDB counterfeit expert
I know how I felt when I got burned on that deal of mine, so I feel for the people who bid and purchase these fake pennies! Filling that last KEY DATE in my penny collection has been a very difficult & costly one, these counterfeits are a BLACK mark on this great hobby. How many of coin collection will get handed down from grandpa to grandson or grand daughter that actually has key date counterfeits in the collection that grandpa paid LARGE amounts of cash for. We need a joint effort to help as much as reasonable to keep these fake out of circulation.

Well, it had been up for auction all the way until its 17th hour when I found and posted the link here and then POOF! I can't help but think the right person (people) saw my post and did the right thing and made contact with ebay and got the listing taking down.
I've posted like five of these pretty recently, 4 of the 5 had the listings pulled!
Here was number 5 (the coin anyway) that sold for something like a $1,000
would you have wanted this in your collection?
I think and now some others here feels the same, that its a cast version of a genuine.
Yep, I contacted the seller before the auction closed and told him that I was pretty sure the coin was a counterfeit, he replied back saying that the MM mark was correct, the period's in the VDB were in correct order and he was sure it wasn't counterfeit, I replied back and tried to explain to him that if its a cast of a genuine one that everything will be in the correct location if its a cast copy. I gave up after that, and I'm for sure NO Expert! After that I just post them here and let the wind blow!

I've seen common date cents faked.
everything is faked.
Pease post a screen shot for the benefit of the Forum in case the auctions are removed. If nothing else, it will help us improve our counterfeit detection. Also, if there is a newbie like you were, he may search the Internet, see pictures of a "coin" that looks like the one he's considering, and either ask more questions or stay very far away. It benefits none of us when a potential collector gets turned off from the hobby when he finds out he was ripped off.
He relisted it!
Now I'm trying to understand his listing.
He states the first pic is a stock pic, the others are the actual coin he's selling!
He states ebay took the first listing down and this is a repost!
Well,
the ONE picture is probably a genuine 09S but there isn't a picture of its reverse side? and the other two pictures are of a counterfeit (FAKE)
Check it out!
He's going to rip someone off hoping they never get the coin checked out, he needs the money for funeral expense, Really?

Here are the 3 pictures in his listing, keeping in mind that he states "one is a stock pic, the others are the actual coin he's selling)

This just keeps getting better!
I went through the sellers feedback and I found something very interesting!
What he's calling the "Stock Pic" is a pic from a past auction where he sold a 1909S for $99.00
Now, he knows he's pulling a scam because I sent him a message telling him that the other pics are of a counterfeit because the period after the D in the VDB was out of position, I also told him that that was the likely reason ebay pulled his listing.
Here is the past listing where he sold the 09S, its the same picture he's calling a stock pic in his current listing. Also, he's listing the S-VDB for only a day, which seems fishy to me.

Keep posting these fakes... and we keep getting them pulled. Seems fruitless at times, since many relist them. But constant attention will hopefully save some people from losing money. Also post a screenshot here when possible so everyone can see the PUP's. Cheers, RickO
Posting the pictures also adds to my virtual counterfeit collection. It's good for collectors to get know what's wrong so that they can spot it in the future.
At any rate, you had best be an expert buying from an honest buyer who will ship the same piece to you, if you care to play the "buy the raw 1909-S-VDB cent" game. Personally I would only play it if I am at a shop or show and can see the item in person. Otherwise buying these coins raw is a risky business. This is one case where buying a certified coin is almost mandatory.
I think that there might be more "1909-S-VDB cents" nowt than there were in 1909.
POOF! their second listing has been PULLED!
I love it, the counterfeit listings gets posted here, and then I just let the wind blow!
I want to thank the person that's personally involved in following these post and taking action to clean the streets of these counterfeits.
Before I sent that counterfeit I bought back to the seller, I cut it into two halves with a pair of metal cutting side cutters, he got the coin back, but it was ruined.
