Ike Dollar Thread

I’ve lately found myself intrigued by Eisenhower dollars... I bought an example a few days ago and find myself reading about them a lot lately.
I’d love to see your Ike’s. Any and all Ike’s, but especially the high grade ones. Any discussion about them would be welcomed.
I’ve always liked them as they remind me of when I was a kid, but I never took them all that seriously. I see now that the high grade ones are quite attractive and can go for big bucks!
Here’s my Ike dollar from a few days ago and I fear the start of yet another direction in my coin collecting.

Ikes are increasingly fascinating as the years go on. Before I went off to college in 2009, I had completed a collection, including proofs and silver proofs. I've come across two original bank wrapped rolls, which I thought were super cool. Occasionally, I'll spend one on a dollar purchase. Nowadays, I share and sell silver proofs to young collectors to help get them started with the hobby.

My uncle would give my brother and I one for Christmas each year. He done that for about 10 years, then he thought we were to old? And he stopped. Never thought why he stopped at the time.
One of the few that I have-
They are popular with my customers and I like them as well.
Pocket piece?
The only graded IKE that I have.

1971-S Eisenhower Dollar
Amazing @CoinCoins!
I like ike
I really like the IKE dollar ... I just never found the right one.
@bearcave .... Wow... That is a super nice IKE....Cheers, RickO
I the remember when they came out in 1971, first dollar coin in my life time. I got the "P" coin from the bank, the "D" coin at a coin shop for $1.25 and the Unc "S" from the Mint for $3.00.
I have a nearly complete set of toned Ikes. Here are a few:
Unfortunately I don't have one to share, but I see a few really nice proof pieces above. I hope to pick up a 1971 and a 1976 proof at some point for my type sets. I almost pulled the trigger on one Saturday, but I saw a spot on it and I passed. I would have purchased it even though it was twice the price, but I could not pull the trigger with the milk spot on it. Unfortunately I am really bothered by spots.

PCGS MS65+ Ty 2.
I purchased it as a raw coin at a show for $6. It graded MS65 on the 1st try and for 8 more submissions over 6 years.
I had it submitted thru a big dealer where it upgraded to MS65+. Thought it was maxed out at MS65+ and sold it. Less than 30 days later it was in a PCGS MS66 holder.
Bright, shinny and Deep Cameo+ with no hints of "tone". What's not to like, eh RickO
@bearcave that is a super coin.
Wayne
Kennedys are my quest...
Those are some outstanding Ikes, david3142!
The cert still says MS65.
I can't find a photo of it as a MS66 in CoinFacts. Can you share a photo?
OOOOPS,,,,,, I posted the wrong photo,,,, here is the correct one,,, 1972-P Ty 2 MS65+
OK, the 1st 1972-P I posted was my Ty 1 MS65. The coin posted above was my 1972-P Ty 2 MS65+,,,,,, that cert should not work. This photo was my 1972-P Ty 3 MS66.
The only error Ike that I own. Obtained it for a great price.
Been on my keyring since the 1980's
The only Ike I have that I've submitted for grading:
“OOOOPS,,,,,, I posted the wrong photo,,,, here is the correct one,,, 1972-P Ty 2 MS65+“

You were probably looking at the wrong photo for the coin since I originally posted the wrong photo.
I am not sure who owns the coin now so I don't think I should post the MS66 photo.
I haven't checked it in years but it was there at that time.

Here are a couple I used to own. The 1971 was MS65 ANACS, and the 1976 was MS66 ANACS, if I remember correctly:
OOPS.. missed this post and started another.. Some beauties here. I'll be posting some now because of @blu62vette and his picture taking skills are spectacular.. Here's a start:

--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line.Visited South Carolina two weeks ago and walked into a coin store to find a 1972 Silver Ike Dollar in a fairly decent condition (was amonst the cull coins) for 9$.

Not too shabby for an $11 RAW IKE... Just got my grade = MS66
I'm waiting on a 1976 IKE Type 1 / NGC MS65 for crossover I sent at the same time. It is stuck in "encapsulation."
Newly enrolled lurker here. I went through a phase of cherrypicking Blue Ikes for high grade examples in the 90s. I missed the top of the market and the bulk submissions had certainly established the rarity for some of these was illusory. This series unfortunately suffers in that it is not respected enough to foster a desire for consistent grading. I wish it were possible to predict how a certain coin will be viewed. It's a impediment to submission. The attached 73-S is currently selling on GC. I mean no disrespect, but it's mind boggling.
@ddostie900 Welcome to the forums!
Indeed that 73-S looks like a 65 to be honest...

Sometimes pictures can throw you but that looks like the finest '73 Ike I've seen.
