Cards as a stress relief

I am sure it is not just me that use their collection as a stress relief. I love checklists. I think sometimes more than the cards themselves because when I finish a checklist and complete a set i never look at that set again but have looked at that checklist all the time while working on that set. My stress relief is that I love to look at the checklist and play the game of if I had $400.00 what would I buy to check off some of the list? I even play the game called for every report/inspection/item I finish at work I get $1,000 each toward my collection what do I buy? Am I the only crazy one who plays these imaginary games? And no...I do not have an imaginary friend...anymore. He moved away when I was a child.

Yes I can agree with you on the mental check list (key word there mental), I have bookmarked in my mind 4 to 5 items that are next on my list to acquire--just a matter of time.
We won’t talk about “Phillip the Squirrel” from when I was little.

Absolutely. In fact, I often think of random collections and do the research to build the customized checklists, only to never buy the first card. Something about the process and thought that goes into it is enjoyable to me.

I have to put cards in order to wind down from my day after work. It calms me I think because I can control it.

  • Absolutely. With all that's gong on in the world, at work, in our personal lives...it totally makes sense to "escape" to the world of cardboard to mentally unwind. Personally I love holding old cards and thinking about the kids that pulled them out of packs. Where they were located, what they thought about the cards, what was going on in that period of history. Even the sometimes rudimentary design is pleasing to me.

Glad I'm not the only one :D

Ha Ha. I have reorganized my cards more times than I can remember.

OP’s idea kind of sounds like the section from the old Beckett price guides where the’d ask readers to create a $100 buy list using their prices and IIRC they’d choose a winner each month who got their list published plus a C-note.

I haven't been so relaxed in years (decades?) since I quit buying cards as a teen as I have been the last 3 weeks or so going through and organizing my old cards. Even started buying new cards again and loving it all over!

About 18 months ago, my family had to go overseas for 9 months while I stayed behind with the dogs and the house. I had so much fun (and relaxation) sitting home alone going through my collection for the first time in 10+ years - ripping random packs, finding all kinds of stuff I had totally forgotten about, uncovering some gems that weren't even gems the last time I saw them.

I also love just cruising around Ebay and coming across all kinds of fun collectibles I didn't even know existed. It's a blast just looking at that stuff.

The best is a flea market random box find. You think you just hit gold!
Sunday afternoon just got better. Relaxing. Absolutely!

I guess I'm more in the opposite boat. I've accumulated so much and have so much research to do, it's more overwhelming than fun or relaxing at this point. I've sorted, sold, and trashed tens of thousands of cards the past year to help clear out the bulk, but I can't pass up a "good deal" so more keeps accumulating.

    Hiya Kyle

    Wow!

    I sure can relate.

My wife has "one" bucket lister for me.

Get rid of all those "white boxes" in the closet if I'm not planning to do anything with them.

I'm sure that Goodwill is gonna get a whole bunch of 90s cards.

So. You're way ahead of me buddy at this point.
