In the past I have occasionally searched penny rolls that I got from the bank. I found this one quite a while back and put it away. It is clearly missing the last number on the date and I see no tool marks or abrasions that might indicate that it was altered. Would like some opinions. I have never found one like this before.

If you are sure it is not post mint damage, the likely cause would be a grease filled die. Specifically grease filling the last digit and preventing the digit from striking up.
Grease filled die?
Here is a little better picture.
filled die
looks like it tried to be a 1
I'll go along with the filled, greasy die observation. BTW nice lamination errors on the table.
I have several, some with date and motto missing, and have been told they are filled grease dies. Ed
John and Olivia really get around.

Welcome to the sand box.
Grease filled die.
Grease filled die
I agree with grease filled die.... there seems to be a trace of the numeral, but just too much grease to allow a full strike. Cheers, RickO
