Yes guys, my favorite B+M shop just received their Mint bags of the new 2021 quarters. P,D and S. I right away purchased 10 of each. In these envelopes are the S, P and D's! Later I'll picture them. Got to go to work right now. Lol

Here is a taste.

"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!

Did they ever train in P-51D models (as shown on the coin) while in training at Tuskegee? I would have expected to see P-40 or P-51B/C models used for training. They did fly P-51D models when in Italy along with P-51B/C models. Earlier they had flown P-40's and, briefly, P-47's.

    Here's a thought?
I would still keep a sharp eye out for any "Mules". One may never know if a W or a Privy Mark would so happen to show up? If it does, BIG MONEY!!! :D

They were very successful and the bomber crews loved them. I don’t think they ever lost a bomber.

I see what you are talking about. You could try sending it to CONECA for verification. If it is determined to be genuine hub doubling you would get credit for its discovery in the CONECA files.

If you are into doubled dies and such this is a very worthwhile organization to join. But non-members can submit coins for review, too.

    Also,

This specific quarter looks in awesome condition, to boot. Worth sending in even without a possible dd. To me, his cheek is flawless. Look at his whole neck and the field behind him. :)

Have my work cut out for me. This is just two Quarters checked with 28 to go. 10 P, 10 D and 8 S. The owner I bought these from were selling a whole Mint Sealed bag for $40 each. P-D-S. Should I? :*

They did lose bombers they were escorting but the bomber crews did like them because they stayed with the bombers and protected them from the German fighters. The story about them never losing a bomber is an example of bad history becoming part of legend. If you want to read an excellent book on the Tuskegee Airmen look for the one published by the Smithsonian Press. Do not pay any attention to the awful movies, both TV and Hollywood, that have been made on the subject. As an example, in the climax of the Hollywood movie the Germans in the Me-262 jet fighters are depicted shooting down one of the movie's Tuskegee pilots with their nose mounted machine guns. The Me-262 did not have machine guns. It had 30mm cannons.

    All glory is fleeting.

Nice find, Looks like that crease could be a planchet flaw. @ErrorsOnCoins is a valuable resource on this. Peace Roy

That's probably not a terrible price if it's a mint-sealed bag. Bag is $25 face value. Tons to look through.

They're already "currently unavailable" at the mint, so the ebay prices will be higher until mint restocks (if they restock).

on another thread they were talking about rim burrs being struck in.

perhaps that is the result of a rim burr, but I am not sure.

I can see that ear. hmmmm.

start a new thread for this coin and put DDO ear? and Rim Burr? in the subject line

I'm not sure what to make of the ear. Yes, there are extra ridges there, but I can't tell from the picture if it's a doubled die or machine doubling. It's in the right place for a doubled die. It might help if you can show another coin in the same grade with the same surface reflectivity that doesn't have this doubling.

The bit at the rim looks like a planchet defect. You could probably pry it off the coin if you tried (don't try).

  • joeykoinsjoeykoins Posts: 16,112 ✭✭✭✭✭

Yes, there are two more areas. Not so prominent but they're there too. @ 4;00 and @ 8;00. Just on the reverse, not any on the obverse.
