This goes nicely with the no star that I secured a short while ago. The earrings

I'm a little surprised it got the gold bean with that scratch, but an attractive coin otherwise.
The dude fought in the civil war. Surly you didn’t think he would make it through completely unscathed? You should see his liver

You mean his lungs - he smoked >20 cigars today. After he won the battle of Shiloh, newspapers published descriptions of him smoking and people sent him cigars from all over the country.
(He did die of throat cancer, almost certainly related.)

Nice pair of Grants!
Very nice pair of coins. I love the bells and whistles too. Congrats
That as well. He was a notorious binge drinker but I have a feeling anyone who fought in that war should have been. Maybe not quite the “ drunk” some would have him out to be
Regardless, he is one of my favorite Americans to ever grace our land

Very nice indeed. Congratulations!
Fantastic pair! Pretty tough to beat that.
LOL, I like the way you think!
And by the by, I imagine the guy was a bit surly as well...
Anyone know why there are star and no-star varieties? Checked my MEGA and it didn't have any insight on the topic. Wondering if there is any significance to the difference.
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
I believe it was an attempt to get people to buy essentially the same commem twice by creating a variety. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. The scarcity of the w/star variety indicates this idea was not terribly successful.
Very nice, thanks for sharing.
VERY NICE!!!
Mintage of the gold star and no star coins was about the same. The difference is with the silver issues.
It worked on me 100 years later. Just shows you how smart I am

The same nonsense happened with plenty of other commems too. The 1920 and 1921 Pilgrim comes to mind.
Nice pair!
I share your admiration of Grant. Great, complex American leader -- his memoirs are outstanding.
Love the coins - great luster on both.
