Some background...
Passenger train travel during the 1880s generally cost two or three cents per mile. Transcontinental (New York to San Francisco) ticket rates as of June 1870 were $136 for first class in a Pullman sleeping car, $110 for second class and $65 for third, or “emigrant,” class seats on a bench.

A brand new dollar in 1880.

Commems and Early Type
Oh, I don't know....could be people posting non numismatic posts, then others posting non numismatic posts about why non numismatic posts shouldn't be posted, and then others posting about how they don't agree with the reasons the people who posted non numismatic posts about how people shouldn't post non numismatic posts posted their non numismatic posts. So I wanted to find some relief. And to keep it numismatic, here is a coin that spent some time in peoples pockets, likely on a steam locomotive at some point.
But not for long-AU58.

About 15 years ago, they tore up the streets and sidewalks of what used to be the train station built around 1880. I found this with my metal detector where the sidewalk was torn out.
Maybe that one took a train ride to the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in a fairgoer's pocket.
