Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
For some (many) ebay listings, there is just no explanation.... Another possibility is the seller is young and just never saw Franklin halves before... Cheers, RickO

Curiouser and curiouser, I verified the cert and it came back as VF30FBL. I guess the error was leaving FBL off the insert?
They gave it the coin number 86682, which is 1962 50c FBL, rather than 6682, which is not FBL. It look kind of silly in a column by itself on the CoinFacts page, too.
It's definately not an FBL and it looks like the reverse was the down side when it got ran over on the road.. With all that chatter (mechanical damage) i am surprised they even graded it. Every device on the reverse looks like it laid on the concrete for quite some time.

The way the listing reads leads one to believe the seller hasn't a clue about it. Will CAC even consider stickering obvious mechanical errors?
I bought the coin from the eBay listing. We’ll find out if CAC will sticker the coin or not. Because the cert verification page shows it as VF30 FBL, my assumption is that CAC must consider it as that grade considering that’s what PCGS graded the coin. To be continued...

My understanding is CAC will not sticker a coin that PCGS has mislabeled. For example, I have a mint state- probably MS65 quality- 1950-D nickel in an XF40 PCGS slab. I contacted CAC (thinking it would be cool to have a gold CAC sticker), and it was a non-starter. CAC knows a mechanical error vs. a truly undergraded coin.
So what do we think the grade was that should have been on the holder, not your opinion necessarily, but what PCGS meant to put on it but a mistake was made somewhere in the process? Presumably the first digit should have been something else, e.g., MS60

ricko, He has over 31,000 sales. I do not understand this auction but at that price, I've got about $ 40,000 worth of Franklins I need to get listed on eBay.

LOL! Classic mechanical error.
I agree. It looks like a VF35, all day long!

It would be nice if the auction explained why this coin is extremely rare.
I would pay VF price for the coin, but it's rarity drove the owner's listing to $198 plus we would have to pay shipping! Guess I'll pass.

$198 is insane!
I think they are considering it rare because of the mis-grading of VF30.

Guaranteed CAC Gold, no?
to get that asking price, it would need a GOLD CAC (do they have platinum?)
That is hilarious.
So instead of rare coin, rare insert?
It's a super rare pop 1.
I don't know why someone would pay slabbing/shipping fees for that coin in the first place but then maybe they just wanted it in a nice holder.

I would say that it rates a platinum CAC sticker!

A qualifier for a new Diamond CAC.

You had me excited.
I would pay good money for an actual PCGS 30 Franklin.
Dang...............PCGS sure was tough that day

maybe because it is not a coin they accept?

Good catch!
My phone conversation dealt mostly with simple mislabeled coins though.
