So crusty, I couldn't tell ... and I thought maybe I had a score

pursuitoflibertypursuitofliberty Posts: 7,278 ✭✭✭✭✭

While almost impossible to see, but just because I wish it wasn't there, doesn't make it so.

There's a crack at the base of the date, as is typical of this marriage. I have to turn the coin about 30 degrees to get it to start to stand out. Without the crack on this marriage ... only a couple known. As in, literally, a couple.

Well, at least she's pretty! At least to these eyes. :)

Guess the grade if you want to play, and I'll welcome any and all comments!

Have a great weekend!!

    Nice coin. I'd say AU53

    My first thought was 55.

I'm addicted to exonumia ... it is numismatic crack!

    A little like this, I imagine. Sorry it's not an R7. :/

Still, a nice mid-AU bust half!

AU50 by current standards. XF45 by the standards of 40 years ago.

I won't divulge the grade just yet, as it's still early on a Friday night ... but yes, that thin little crack at the date that Lance pointed out is all the difference! Thankfully I wasn't sure, didn't ask, and liked the coin for what it appeared to be even with the crack. And paid a price according to that, figuring if the crack was missing, it was a pretty major score, and it is was there, another one for the group.

I think she's a handsome dirty girl ... and for whatever that is worth, I've kind of always liked the girls a little rough and tumble. :D

I would say it's got to be either an au55 or au58.

Man, I so wish I got that whole thing. Maybe @abcde12345 could explain?

Now I am absolutely confused!! :D:D:D

Okay, well, this one is graded as a AU53 by our hosts, and I am very comfortable with that. In hand it is consummate for the grade, in my opinion. It has some striking weakness on the reverse scroll, which I never think is great, but that doesn't deter from this one for me. She just has too many other things going for her ... even with that thin crack.

And as usual, most of you are pretty much spot on with the grade!

I have said it before, but when I see 53's that have this look and feel, it is really hard not to try and work something out. Thankfully the seller was easy to work with and we came to an agreement that was probably the right situation for both of us.

Sorry that crack is still there, Todd... but it’s an absolutely beautiful bust half you have there!

Looks 55 to me and a PQ one at that.

    Really like the toning too.
