Yes. It was a Dutch coin in the mid-1970s. Which, as Andy Dufresne might have said, had no earthly business being under a Coke machine in central Illinois.
I was maybe 7. Second world coin I encountered, and really hit home that other countries had other coinage than ours, other money, other language, etc.

found a chinese square-hole coin in the parking lot of a native american monument in iowa when I was 6 - was always picking shiny things up off the ground [still am]
When I was very young, before I was a coin collector, I found what I thought an empty wallet laying on the sidewalk. I picked it up, and threw it as far in the air as I could. When it landed, a large cent popped out (date on coin unknown). I thought I struck the jackpot! I showed it to my uncle, and asked how much it was worth. A buddy of my uncle’s gave me 1 dollar for the coin.
I must have been in the 1st grade based on where we lived at the time (Everett, WA). Found a English Half Penny, from the 30's I think, in between the drive and the trees. Nice one too, if my memory would be able to go back, maybe a solid VF with some earth corrosion (although not much). I don't know what happened to it, but I remember showing to my neighbor who was a worldly man, and he explained some of it to me. I was fascinated. I had it at least into my earliest teens.
I found a bus token from the late 50's or early 60's (I think) in my own back yard about 2 years ago. Just kind of came up from the dirt one day near the back part of the driveway. I still have it in my FJ. It's kind of cool. I should take a picture. The original house here was built in '47, so something like that doesn't totally surprise me.

One day I was driving around stopping at a bunch of banks buying change looking for silver or other interesting things. I hit about a half dozen or so and went through a lot of rolls and loose stuff but found nothing. I decided to call it quits so I stopped at a deli to buy a sandwich and head home. When I paid I heard that familiar sound a silver coin makes when it hits another coin and sure enough they had handed me a silver dime in my change. That was the last thing I was expecting. Nothing special but it was ironic and made me chuckle a bit.
I use to rent this old rock house about 12 yrs ago. Did MDing around it once in a while also. I lived there for over a year. One day it was raining, I was standing out my back door right next to a gutter that was dropping water on a small area of dirt. I just happened to look down and laying right on top of the ground was this coin. I thought it was weird as I'm always scoping out the ground when I walk around where I live. Lol
fishing this summer in waist deep water at the families cabin with my kids. looked down saw a black object by my feet, ended up being a merc dime turned completely black with a few zebra muscles on it.

I found a half dollar on a ride at the fair. It’s not so surprising, I guess!
