Thanks to the many who have posted pictures of various of your collectables. It has made for a varied (pun intended) interesting thread.
Here is a photo of one of the pieces of Movie Memorabilia in my collection. It is a prop from the movie "Shanghai Knights" and is the Imperial Seal that is the subject of the search that brought the characters payed by Owen Wilson, Jackie Chan and Fann Wong to England to secure its return to the Emperor in China.
I should note that pictured above the display of the Imperial Seal are some screen shots of my character from my appearance in an episode of Hawaii Five-0. The pictured three-cornered hat I am wearing is an item of movie memorabilia that I wish I could have retained. Reportedly it had been a prop in the Mel Gibson movie, "The Patriot" and was on loan from the movie studio to the costuming department for Hawaii Five-0. This came to light when at the last minute the Studio began having second thoughts about allowing their properties to be used on the Hawaii Five-0 TV set. I almost had to turn it in before the filming began but fortunately an agreement was reached in time.
Here are some additional props from my movie memorabilia collection. The swords crossed on the shield hung on the wall of London Tower in the movie "Shanghai Knights" and were seen in the movie being taken down for use by Owen Wilson and Jackie Chan's characters for the swordfight in the Tower of London before they reached Big Ben.
For a little bit of movie making trivia;
Yes, that is the Imperial Seal. Interestingly a duplicate with a rubber like crystal was used in the scene where the seal was being tossed between the actors.
My collection includes both the one with the crystal that was used for closeups and the one that was tossed back and forth.
I collect a lot of different things. Coin stuff is actually on the lower end of my spectrum. Trading cards (both sports and non-sports) is probably #1, 1/64 NASCAR replicas is right there and used to be #1, may return to that spot some day. Plastic models, comic books, photos (I've taken more than 80 thousand over the past 4 years, and I photo document all of my collections, still a work in progress). Books and magazines. Photos of cars are a big part of my life too.
Those are pretty much in every day.
Secondary hobbies that I partake in but only sometimes are coins and currency, stamps, rocks, video games, and I feel like there's something else I'm forgetting.
I used to collect action figures, but stopped in 2007. Still have them all though.
You can see my collections on my website if you want to. There's more than 400,000 photos and scans so it'll take a while if you want to see it all. https://public.fotki.com/ElCaminoBilly/
And US stamps to a limited degree. Especially stuff like this. I've actually been collecting stamps longer than coins-1959 for stamps and 1961 for coins.
I'm not sure if you're kidding or not but those are petrified sharks teeth. Very cool fossils.

What the heck is a rubber like crystal?
Good question. As made the “ crystal” is more translucent than transparent, and of course is not as breakable when being tossed between the characters,
Both are actually pictured in the original post that shows them on top of the baseball display box,
Besides coins and a really large stamp collection (now retired to the closet), I collect Lionel HO Gauge trains (in original boxes) and vintage HAM radio gear. I also have a C&R license and have a considerable collection of milsurp firearms (I used to shoot them all but with the cost of ammo being to the roof and a general shortage of available ammo they don't get shot any longer).
I also have a pretty large collection of PSA and SGC graded non-sports cards in my non-sports type set. Very entertaining and a lot of really neat art work.
I'm an accumulator of everything that catches my eye like unopened model car kits, mint on card hot wheels and unopened toys of all kinds. I also have a collection of lead casting molds but currently don' t have any lead to melt to make more soldiers (used to be able to get wheel weights from the local service station but they don't make them out of lead any longer). Let's not talk about comic books.

Another type of "collection" that I guess most of us have are the souvenirs we "collect" from our travels. Inspired and motivated by seeing the Faberge Eggs in the Kremlin Armory "Museum" I sought out this replica of my favorite. Pictured first is my replica that I brought back from Russia followed by the original located in the Armory as part of the Moscow Kremlin.
And to keep with the Russian theme, here are the Russian Nesting Dolls to which I made reference in my initial post:
My initial post:
I have a number of varied collected items that may or may not rise to the status of “Collections.” These range from the Movie Memorabilia displayed at my office to collected Dinosaur Eggs and most recently Russian Nesting dolls depicting art scenes.
Guess it mirrors my varied coin collecting interests as I have dabbled in Early Dollars and $3 gold pieces with Registry Sets for both but have a large variety of others as interests have driven from semi proof Morgan’s to Large Cents, and even Ancients, Territorials, and $20 gold pieces to include a subset of $20 Carson City minted ones along with an 1861 Paquet Reverse Double Eagle and the 1850 specimen that has been traced back through auction records to having originally been in the collection of its designer and engraver, James B. Longacre.
Again, thanks to the many who have posted pictures of various of your collectables. It has made for a varied (pun intended) interesting thread.
Adding to the Movie/Media Memorabilia, the collected prop items I have from the TV Series LOST have added meaning as two family members worked as Extras on various episodes. Pictured is one with Mathew Fox who played the role of Dr. Jack Shepherd, and in another scene he is seated behind Josh Holloway as James "Sawyer" aboard the pivotal Oceanic Flight 815 as recreated in the story's alternate universe.
A collected item of prop money used on the set of LOST:
Are fountain pens still made? If not, what defines a "modern"?
Yes, they still make fountain pens!
Bexley located outside Columbus Ohio is the lone domestic manufacturer. Most come from Europe. Visconti is still making some great pieces.
I consider modern anything made in the last 50 years or so. Vintage would be a pen made before the wholesale change to ballpoints roughly in the 1950’s.
Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?
A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.
A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

I used to have that problem then I purchased a quality pen. Problem solved.
Try a Bexley or a Visconti.
It does take a little while to learn to refill your pen without making a small mess. But the newer pens have a short learning curve.

Just located this photo that shows the icons better:
Just received a couple rough Opal parcels. Nice stuff.
Would love to see what you end up doing with those "opal parcels."
I have a small collection of pens also. Most are fountain pens split between vintage and modern.

A very interesting collection.

I have always had trouble with pens, either not working right, or leaking ink all over my fingers and making a mess on my paper.. I hate pens.
You should consider collecting them
Looks like the pen is mightier than the sword.![:) :)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I used to have that problem then I purchased a quality pen. Problem solved.
Try a Bexley or a Visconti.
It does take a little while to learn to refill your pen without making a small mess. But the newer pens have a short learning curve.

UH oh. Sounds like those spill proof little soft plastic cartridges filled with ink may no longer be an option for filling ink pens?
