The Iconic Mercury Dime appreciation thread

braddickbraddick Posts: 24,818 ✭✭✭✭✭

There is something romantic about the Mercury (Winged Liberty) silver dime. How it became a United States coin in 1916 and what history revealed during its tenure (it was present during two world wars after all). I appreciate this series and, even more so, the like-minded collectors who make it their mission to preserve these little beauties within collections.

If you share in the appeal of this coin, please do present your coins in this thread.

Totally agree. I remember when I got that one in the late 80's I think it was. It is a nice coin in a 66 holder and could go FB
with a resubmit I believe. But I like the old slab.

Mercs are a great coin... I have several, slabbed and raw. No pictures at this time... will get one later and post it. Cheers, RickO

I only have a few UNC raw mercs. These two are from Grandpa’s Whitman. The rest were slick and polished and now reside in rolls.

Neat thread ... I need to bring these home sometime soon and re-photograph them

Here's a couple I particularly like in Rattlers, photos are almost 13 years old

What a GREAT post! It is certainly my favorite coin. I have been working on the set for years. I just passed the 51% complete mark. All of them except my two key coins are FB's. I just love this coin. They remind me of diamonds.

Thank you for sharing all these wonderful pictures.

I have none as spectacular as your dimes, but this is my favorite, with a light golden patina 1942/1-D, AU-55 CAC.

    Nice one.

I got mine from a bucket of junk silver.

Paid 50 cents at the time.

Every dealer at a local show told me it wasn't the overdate.

I got it slabbed across the street, now in an XF-45 holder.

When I showed the dealers who had said nope.
They all said, "see I told you it was good."

    They are idiots.
