Question For The Old Timers

I brought up this question some months ago, possibly a year ago and received no comments. Has anyone ever heard of a variety on the Jefferson nickel from 1965-68 labeled a "flap" variety? Back then a seller was promoting this type in Numismatic News in the classified section with an accompying photo. The "variety" was a slightly raised section on Jefferson's collar. Not as a result of a diebreak/ CUD/ striking process,as much as I recall. These seemed to only affect the years 65-68. My NN are long since gone and Google was of no help. Would be effective to go back if one could locate these NN issues. I had 3-4 of these but have long since been lost/misplaced. However,I will search once again to see if I can come up with a coin. I don't recall the pricing of these pieces that the seller was promoting. Don't believe I ever saw any commentary of these in CW Clearinghouse. Maybe someone out there has some Unc./Bu 65-68 nickels laying about and could find one.

I've never heard of it.
Doesn't ring any bells with me either
It sounds like a description of a polished die,
where there is now separation from Jefferson's
collar and his neck. I've seen those before, but
not 'promoted' as such.....which anyone can do.

I concur with @koynekwest .
I have not heard of it either.
Nope.
Curious, what constitutes "Old Timer"? Anyone over 30?
YA It still Works !!!
Steve
None of us over 30 here and I never heard about this nickel either
Me too and I've been collecting Jeffersons since the Johnson administration

Never heard of it, I used to read “Coins” and “COINage” when I was a YN in the 1960s. I remember a 1965 dot cent that was supposed to have been minted at the Denver Mint when there were no mint marks.
Yeah, Bill, I remember that one. I used to buy those magazines from time to time, too.
Just opened to see I met the qualifications for old timer. I’ve never heard of that variety so I I’m happy not be there yet.
Thanks for all the comments Even with no definitive ID of the "variety" from the input here, it does help via process of elimination. I may or may not have sent an example of the coin in question to CW Clearinghouse in the late 60's for comment. Not my intent to offend the young timers nor the "Old Timers" with said moniker. I reside in that OT's realm as well.
The only variety that I remember that was being pushed back then was the 1964 E PLURIDUS UNUM, where the middle of the "B" was missing.
As time went on, that one seemed to fade away.

I believe I fit all the parameters for an old timer....
However, I do not recall that variety.... and do not recall any discussion of a similar Jefferson variety here... Cheers, RickO
It sounds like the "speared buffalo nickel" variety---hyped by someone trying to market a minor variety and then quickly forgotten.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.
Sorry, I haven't.
No
My first visit to a coin shop was 1959 and that probably makes me old? Although I had been collecting for several years before that. I've never heard of the OP's nickel.

One thing I am sure of, is that there was a photo of the coin in the sellers ad, which was in the back classified section of Numismatic News.
That is entirely possible as nothing has seemingly come to light after all these years. This subject is just something that I remember from long ago. And just been curious as to what became of this possibly hyped up type of coin.
