But it is an area that I have always liked and am reasonably familiar with.

I have wanted one of these for DECADES.

This coin was just whispering in my ear, for days, and I couldn't help but fall prey to her charms.

Mintage of 293,000.

Last year of the Series.

Thoughts & comments are always welcome.

I will post the grade within 24 hours.

Nice, looks about 62. She is rather seductive.

Nice job, stepping out! Whatever the grade, that’s a really nice looking example - something I seldom say about Seated dollars.

    My grade guess is MS63.

Very tough coin to find nice.
Not sure if a lot of these were melted or what......but I like first and last year’s of issue for my type set, and I’ve never found a decent XF/AU that I wanted for my set. When you do run across one on the bourse, it invariably is cleany or dinged up.

    That example is very nice!

Edited to add - from CoinFacts:
1873 circulated grades: Many if not most 1873 Liberty Seated dollars went to the melting pot. Specimens of coins in circulated grades from Very Fine to AU are much rarer today than the mintage indicates.

Availability of Mint State grades: The 1873 is quite rare in Mint State, but not as rare as one might think. However, they are not significantly more elusive than are circulated pieces (which, as noted, are not easy to find).

You done good... it hopefully should grade in the MS spectrum. I don't see many 1873 SLD... maybe others here have had better luck

Very nice, and yes the 1873 is a tougher date too.

I'll take a stab as AU 58. But seeing all of the MS 62/63 guesses makes me question that initial call. It's nice coin regardless of the grade given.

One additional comment... This story reflects the benefit of casting a big net in an effort to find and actually buy those coins that may not be on the front burner. In numismatics, opportunities can present themselves when we least expect it. Collectors need to look for those opportunities. The best coins I own were found when I was not specifically looking for them. This may sound strange and undisciplined, but that is the way it is with me.

    Nice addition!

I have done this often.... It happened so often, that I stopped making lists or doing series. I am proudly - and totally - undisciplined in my collecting - (some might say in other areas as well :D ). I buy what I like.... When I used to go to shows, sometimes I purchased nothing, other times, several pieces. I found that for me, this was an incredibly satisfying way to enjoy the hobby. Cheers, RickO

62 or 63 Would be my guess. I suspect if the coin was submitted several times it would come back both of these grades at some point if the photos are an accurate representation.

I very much enjoy my collection of WLH. While I will upgrade the set when I can (or get outbid for the upgrade), my collecting focus is also on Seated Liberty coins.
Yada yada yada on grading from one photo - yours looks MS to me as I think the shadowing around the devices is toning and don't see rub on the thigh. 63.
You will enjoy Seated Liberty coins. Gorgeous design.

That is a gorgeous and seductive Dollar, for sure! <3

Looks uncirculated, and I'm going to say it's in a 63 holder

WOW! A VERY nice piece for sure and the eye appeal is lovely. I gotta say 63 as I see zero rub with my old eyes.

Wow, this coin is CRAZY scarce. Only 8 MS 62 examples (4 P and 4 N) have sold at Heritage, since 1993!! At Great Collections, could find no examples in 62 or 63 and only ONE 64, which didn't look as nice as my coin. Feeling grateful and justified in my purchasing decision. o:) Glad that I stepped up, as this was, evidently, a scarce and important opportunity.
