The first set I remember buying as a kid. Looking at the pictures makes me smell the bubble gum.

Will buy a hobby to rip and a hobby to keep (started with the 2020 version) and going backwards as funds permit....

Won't be starting any sets but should have a card or two to help the set builders.
Hoping to hit a card in my rip - If prior history is telling - THAT won't happen...

Yahoo, my local just sent me a text saying the hobby boxes (she's allocated this year which means I think I only get 2 or 3) are in and I have a tracking notice that I'll be receiving my 3 blasters from Target today, so, it's a good day. If I could just tell work to f off so I could pursue my real passion today, it would be a perfect day.

Taking my time through box 1, and my first thought is that the slight differences in back color is bugging me.

Second observation is that I hate the seeding of the inserts. What a terrible decision by Topps to seed the T&N, BF and NF inserts at 1:25 when there are only 24 packs per box. The inserts that were usually afterthoughts when trading are now going to be a premium due to their scarce seeding.

Here are my box 1 results:
    SPs seeded at 1:3 should yield 8 - I got 8
    NAP seeded at 1:15 should yield 1.6 - I got 3
    T&N seeded at 1:25 should yield .96 - I got 1
    BF seeded at 1:25 should yield .96 - I got 1
    NF seeded at 1:25 should yield .96 - I got 0
Clemente "The Great One" seeded at 1:18 should yield 1.33 - I got 1
Gold clubhouse collection seeded at 1:1,168 should yield .02 - I got 1 (Brandon Belt 01/99)
Action image seeded at 1:52 should yield .46 - I got 1 (Fernando Tatis Jr.)
    Christian Yelich box topper

With all the packs that have no SP or insert I wonder why Topps made the inserts so hard to pull? Why have so many packs in a box with just commons? Also, the big box toppers and 50th anniversary originals are not wrapped this year, they are just laying on top of the packs when you open the box.

Here are my box 2 results:
    SPs seeded at 1:3 should yield 8 - I got 8
    NAP seeded at 1:15 should yield 1.6 - I got 1
    T&N seeded at 1:25 should yield .96 - I got 1
    BF seeded at 1:25 should yield .96 - I got 1
    NF seeded at 1:25 should yield .96 - I got 2
Clemente "The Great One" seeded at 1:18 should yield 1.33 - I got 2
    24 purple chromes
1 red chrome Mike Soroka 033/372
    Tanner Houck (who?) blue autograph

Some more observations that I'm sure no one cares about but me, but since this thread has become like a blog for me it seems appropriate. lol

I appreciate that Topps put a Braves star at card #299 and #300 (for Aaron), and a Pirates star at #309 and #310 (for Clemente), but why wouldn't they put a Red Sox player at card #79 for Carlton Fisk, the HOF rookie card that arguably anchors the set?

Also, they put the leader cards in the correct spots from #85 to #96 just like the 1972 set, but why the heck did they put the world series cards from #26 to #30 (and skip game 3 for some reason) instead of in the 220s like the 1972 set? They didnt put something else important there so why not do it?

Here are my box 6 results:
    SPs seeded at 1:3 should yield 8 - I got 8
    NAP seeded at 1:15 should yield 1.6 - I got 2
    T&N seeded at 1:25 should yield .96 - I got 1
    BF seeded at 1:25 should yield .96 - I got 0
    NF seeded at 1:25 should yield .96 - I got 1
Clemente "The Great One" seeded at 1:18 should yield 1.33 - I got 2
    Box topper - Jose Ramirez
    Clubhouse collection - Aaron Nola
    French text - Trevor may

5 of the 6 inserts were duplicates which is very concerning because a full case was already not going to get me full sets of each insert. I never thought I would see the day when opening heritage packs that I'd be hoping for inserts more than SPs.

I was hoping to get way closer to a master set from one case so I could think about selling case #2, but because it's 1972 I probably wouldn't have sold it anyway.

To still be 36 SPs short, not to mention 28 inserts (not counting the Clemente set) is bull^&#*, but I guess it's right on par for a company that completely left out common card #216?

It's been more than a few years since you could nearly do a master set with one case.

Way, way too many dupes...... in the SP and inserts. The basics. Topps gave up on the set collector in favor of the purple chrome collector.... smh But..... Nolan Ryan does make up for it... trying to find that balance.

    Wow Nick!

    Really nice pull buddy.

I posted a 70 design Ryan I pulled that got sent in. Gonna send it to PSA down the road?

Here's a pull I saw with Jabs on youtube:

You can see that it's hard for Aaron to sign at this time - note the "pooling" of ink in some start/stop places in his sig - what you would see with an autopen?

Some more observations that I'm sure no one cares about but me, but since this thread has become like a blog for me it seems appropriate. lol

Thanks for sharing your images and findings.

UPS has my case arriving Wednesday by 9 PM.

My Son and I plan on breaking it all like drunken sailors on leave - no pack be spared!

We will try to keep case stats and will show hits as we rip.

I'm supposed to get three hobby boxes Thursday, but I found these today. If there is anything good I'll post it.

Collector of 1976 Topps baseball for some stupid reason.
Collector of Pittsburgh Pirates cards for a slightly less stupid reason.
