Need to know what I am missing: 1982 D small date 3.2 grams

I know I haven’t found know one of these rare coins. Please explain to me what I don't see in this coin that makes it a normal cent vs being worth a lot.

    @Tbigford.... Welcome aboard.... Yes, yours appears to be the large date. Reference above pictures (2 and tail of 9). Cheers, RickO

    You have the large date, too close to the rim and the top loop of the eight is the same as the lower loop.

    Draw the line from the bottom of the 1 to the bottom of the 2. If the bottom of the 8 is on/above that it's the small date. if it bulges below the line, it's the large date.

    Your line shows the same thing in reverse and is harder to draw - the parallel line at the bottom of the 8 which has both the 1 and the 2 floating above it.
