Received my Ase privy today

WAYNEASWAYNEAS Posts: 6,746 ✭✭✭✭✭

So since I will not sell it but only pass it on
do I open it or leave it sealed to pass on to a future generation
The current value means nothing to me as it still is only a $87.95 purchased value coin delivered.
What do you feel the value would be in say 20 years opened versus unopened
thanks Wayne

Are the rest of your items slabbed?
If not, leave it and enjoy it.

If yes, then get it slabbed...pay it now and don't worry about it later (and you can get the "1st strike" or whatever they have these days without having to send in unopened box.

Too hard to predict value as it could stagnate or it could go up. Worst it would be is bullion value of silver.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Unopened would be key to whoever got it after you if they were to send it in for grading after the cutoff point so 20 years would qualify. The value heavily depends on how they grade out overall. If there are few 70’s and you pull a 70 then maybe some money.

I have many Pcgs registry sets which will "pass down" with this coin
I so do like to collect and have nor will I sell a coin
Can you imagine inheriting registry sets that are in the top 10 and many in the top 5?
So many only think about profit but I only think about remembrance.

I’d leave it as is. Whomever you leave it to can get it graded at a future date, if they so choose. By then, a different grading company and/ or type of holder might be THE big thing.

I’d leave it in the box if you want someone else to grade it with a “First Strike” designation after the 30 day term elapses. If this makes no difference to you, open it and enjoy it. You can still send it in now and acquire the designation if that’s your goal. Otherwise, you will enjoy a sealed cardboard box. Kinda kills the allure if you ask me.

I’d say leave it in packaging but open the box. Enjoy it. Personally, I don’t find enjoyment in slabbing these and first strike designation really doesn’t mean much since they were all probably struck within a day or two anyway. It’s one (if the mint ever ships mine) I’ll probably give to my son if he ever takes an interest after he reaches adulthood.

If it were my coin, I would open it and enjoy it. No slabbing/grading. It is a nice ASE and a memento of a significant event in my lifetime. Cheers, RickO

unless you leave specific instructions, your heir is going to immediately rip it open to see what it looks like. You should be the one to open it.

I would open it to view it and enjoy it.

    Thanks all for your thoughts.
I have attached the confirmation and shipping emails with instructions not to open it.
Of course the suspense of having an unseen" item passed on makes me smile. :)
All the other mint items that I have purchased, I have opened and unless they have been slabbed to become part of one of my registry sets, they reside in my safes for years not being viewed. :( When I find the "heir apparent", we can go through them hopefully together. If not, it is what it is. Have a nice day!

Not sure the value is there for most people to get this one graded, and if they do is the first strike label going to add much value? I’d probably open it and enjoy it. I’m tired of having to keep all my mint stuff sealed.

I'd leave it as is if I were to pass it on

I don’t buy much modern stuff, but I confess I don’t get the ‘leave it sealed in the box’ preference. Just don’t take it out of the mint capsule.

I sent my V75 ASE off for grading yesterday. I think this one is sufficiently valuable to invest in grading.

WAYNEAS, at first glance the title of this thread shocked me. I read it as "Received my Ass privy today."
