I started to collect Roman Aureii. In case anybody wants to offer to me.
Each ancient Roman coin has such a big story, its so exciting, in comparison to US coins always liberty one side and eagle the other.

You're following my same path, it would seem (see my collection link below). Happy to help answer any questions!
Wow, very nice. I like your display and write-up. Nice looking collection!
yes beautiful, also the way its presented I like very much.
Those ancient Roman or Greek coins sure have the art..... I so wish we had that on today's coins. Obviously, due to manufacturing volumes they would not be quite the works of art that the old ones were... However, I do think we could do better. Cheers, RickO
I like ancient coins and considered collecting them but decided against it because they are heavily counterfeited and they are too difficult to price.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.
Easy to buy. Harder to sell.
Very, very cool though. History like no other.
(Not trying to monopolize the US forum here but I felt a couple points were worth a reply)
As long as you stay far, far away from eBay and stick with reputable sellers, you should be pretty safe. Ancients have been studied since the Renaissance so while fakes do definitely exist, the known dies have been studied extensively.
Like with US coins, 99% of fakes can be spotted instantly but some are harder to discern. A good example is the recent Eid Mar aureus which sold for a record $4.2M. Many dealers doubt its authenticity (I'm also very skeptical of it). It isn't helped by the dubious provenance attached to the coin: in cases like that, it's better to just avoid it rather than be mixed up in messiness.
I too wish there were a fast-and-easy priceguide but the pricing databases are enormous and easy to search so finding comparable examples is usually pretty straightforward.
Having bought and sold many US coins, ancients are more transparent in many ways as they are so distinct so tracking a specific provenance is easier (much to the chagrin of dealers who used to be able to mark up coins 50% in the pre-Internet days). Many US coins, if re-graded/re-holdered, require a fair amount of heavy-lifting to try to match previous sales.
ACSearch even has an AI-based image recognition search feature now so you don't have to know what to type in: just upload an image and it'll find the similar coins:
Really enjoyed looking through your site some incredible coins and great presentation of them thanks for sharing!
