Been wanting one of these for a long time....

GRANDAMGRANDAM Posts: 8,275 ✭✭✭✭✭

I always liked the design of the Oregon Trail but didn't want to break the bank on one and have been looking for about a year and when this one popped up today I made a best offer and it was accepted. Seller had (2) identical pcs and the other is gone as well. PCGS MS65 CAC OGH.

Sellers pictures and I think he is a member here. GREAT COIN IMHO,,,,,

I like it! I agree that this is a really great design among the classic commem series. I've been casually looking for a while... I'll get one eventually.

Looks like CAC should have gold stickered that one! I've seen MS66s that look worse.

As I said, seller had (2) identical pcs. Both PCGS MS65 CAC original skin.. I should have purchased both of them. He does have 2 more similar coins still for sale,,,

Congrats!! That's a nice one. Other than the Columbian Expo Half, this design too was my first. I think my second was a 1936 Texas. Also a beautiful design.

I think it's a great design (one if the all-time best) and I like the OP's coin but I prefer this coin toned. :)

I regret not getting a Dan Carr re-strike when they were issued because I thought they were a little steep but,,,,,,,, hindsight is 20/20. :s

I'm glad I got my 1927-D. I bought it after he sold them for about $350. It has the die bruise, so it's one of the last 10 struck. It graded MS69 by ANACS. They are nice, but not frosty since there were only 59 struck. One is up for sale on ebay, but they want over $700 for it.

Yea,,,, I am too cheap to pay $700 for one so I got the next best thing,,,,,,, a real one,,,,,, I would trade other Dan Carr items for an Oregon Trail though,,,,, I have a couple hundred pcs to trade,,,,, or sale.

Nice choice. I love many of the classic commemorative series. I have about 20, some graded, some raw. The Oregon is one of my favorites then maybe 15 Pan Pacific and 36 Norfolk. Most are still relatively affordable, a couple downright cheap!

  • thefinnthefinn Posts: 2,645 ✭✭✭✭✭

I think any Oregons, with the exception of 26 and 26-S are a good buy in properly graded and attractive grades right now. Classic Commems are very underpriced.
