It's official, the free Taco Bell giveaway will be on October 28th. I anticipate a long line because anything free is bound to draw a crowd.

    Taco Bell on the 28th....

I sure hope they have enough ingredients for all those free tacos! Is it only for one day?

Yes, I do believe it is one day only. I wouldn't want to be a Taco Bell employee on the 28th!

I'm guessing you're allowed to and just get the free one? you don't have to buy anything else, although 1 taco isn't going to do much for an appetite.

Yes, you don't have to buy anything. I will bring my wife and she'll give me her taco because she doesn't like Doritos Locos, so I actually get 2 free tacos!

@doubledragon ... I know you like to joke around, so I'm hoping that you are not serious about that taco "recipe." If you are, then shoot me a PM if you ever make your way to San Diego. We will go grab lunch. You can tell me about Joe Louis cards and I will get you some real Mexican food. Tacos are on me.

Unfortunately, I am serious about it. There's a Wal-Mart market a block from my home, and I get the ingredients there and make it. I know, it's sad. If I'm ever in your area, I'll PM you, and you can save me from this Wal-Mart mexican nightmare! 😂😂😂😂

You're on, man. Though a quick, little tip... Buy corn tortillas. warm them on the stove until they are pliable, then fold in half and fill with your hamburger. Fry the whole thing in some olive oil. Turn once when the bottom gets crisp. Throw is some cheese to melt and salt lightly. That oughta hold you over 'til you make your way out west!

@AFLfan I know Im not invited to dinner, but I just want to add my opinion (for some reason ). I would always go flour tortilla over corn. I'm not here to debate, just to get my voice into the mix a little... 🤪

Lol. I am always up for Mexican food and card talk, so hit me up if you're in the area.

I can see flour tortillas for soft tacos, but for fried I think you need corn. Pretty sure fried flour tortillas would be too brittle to eat by hand.

Sorry to take up a World Series thread with taco talk, but I just couldn't stand quietly by with Double D posting about premade shells. Also, as a native San Diegan it is against my religion to root for the Dodgers, but the Rays also do nothing for me, so I'm struggling with this series.

The Rays are number 1 with me right now just for getting rid of the Yankees.

I will be watching game 3 up until about 10:30 p.m. tonight. At 10:30 p.m. I will pass out asleep. After that, you're on your own!!

Justin Turner just went deep, Dodgers lead 1-0.

Morton is in trouble for the Rays. The Dodgers just drove in 2 more runs, they lead 3-0.

Buehler is bringing the heat for the Dodgers, he looks relaxed on the mound. He's on cruise control.

    Buehler tonight on the mound....

I'm not able to watch tonight's game. I'll be watching the rest if I can. I don't need to watch regular season baseball like I need to watch other sports, but the World Series is different. It seems to bring out a much higher level of play.....and hustle.....in a sport which typically has so many games, meaningless games, not running a hit out, etc the WS puts these guys into 100% mode.

I can't watch regular season baseball at all, it just bores me to tears, every game seems so slow and meaningless because every team plays 500 games. I can only watch the World Series because it's only 7 games at most and a championship is on the line.

Enjoyed the Dodgers victory tonight but had to laugh at the over-the-top raving about Walker Buehler as a superstar ace. Yeah, he's pitched well in the postseason but... we're talking about a guy averaged 4.5 innings per start this year and pitched so little he had 1 decision in 8 starts. They raved about him taking over for Kershaw as a true ace. Meanwhile, by the same age Buehler is now, Kershaw had won 3 Cy Youngs and an MVP. Heck, Kershaw had a better season THIS YEAR. Yeah, Buehler pitched great tonight and he's got electric stuff and a bright future but c'mon. Let's not anoint him The Next Great Superstar because of 6 innings. Lots of dudes have thrown games that good or better in the World Series.

Tie after 7 innings 6-6. Wow. Back and forth.

I just have to say this.....

After that last play to end Game 4, the current Dodgers don't deserve to win a World Series. This is what, their third chance with the same basic lineup?

I hate to say this, because I want them to win, but they're Chokers; and they've been chokers in every post-season they've been in!

I had to turn the game off before the 9th. Just saw the replay of what I assume you are talking about. It was a game with a lot action, I can say that.

Give the Rays a lot of credit; they kept hanging in there and battling every inning. Same with the Dodgers. Both teams kept battling; punching and counter-punching.

But then it all ends just like it always has with this Dodgers lineup.....a Choke. They can't handle the pressure when it comes down to the make-or-break moment.

    TO DD

You guys are making me miss LA. I used to spend 1/2 the year there and you can get awesome Mexican food.
Nothing here in upstate NY comes close.

About once a year we have a taco party for friends. My wife will cook up hamburger with the taco mix in it and we will cut up all the ingredients, different sauces and shells (soft varieties & hard) and you can make exactly what you like.

Oh, the WS. What a ending. I would like to see best of 7

@jay0791 I'm starting to want to go to LA myself just for the Mexican food! That was ine if the most insane endings I've ever seen to a game. This World Series is turning out to be a classic! I hope it goes to 7 as well!

Ha! So, our neighbor goes to Dollywood, and brings back these jars of Dollywood brand apple butter and they give a jar to us. My wife is ranting a raving about how good this stuff looks. She tells me to get some Pillsbury Grands biscuits to put the apple butter on. So, I get the biscuits and she puts the apple butter on them and takes one bite and says,"can you hand me the grape jelly, this apple butter just isn't for me". It's just hilarious because all week long, she was talking about how good this stuff looks and to have it end like that. 😂😂😂😂

Terrific ending - thank goodness my kids were still up to watch that. Good lesson of never quitting and that anything can happen.

Best game I've seen in a long time. When Phillips came up I was thinking okay the Dodgers are
going to win. He didn't do anything for the Royals all year.
But really happy for him that he came through with the big hit.

  • JRR300JRR300 Posts: 1,369 ✭✭✭✭

Echoing my sentiments on what a great game. Every half inning had action. I had watched a few Rays games this season and that was a perfect example of how they play. Battle you every inning, never give up and it's a team playing as a team. Guys pick each other up constantly. The last three games will be fun to watch.

They swept your Padres. Last game 12-3.

If the Dodgers are chokers what does that makes the Padres who can't make it past the Dodgers?

As I said, I want the Dodgers to win; I'm rooting for them.

But to answer your question, what's the difference? Whether you lose in the LDS, LCS or Wildcard round, or if you lose in the World Series; Hell, say you didn't even get to the playoffs, you've still lost. What do the Dodgers have to show so far for their three trips in the last four years to the World Series?

What do the Buffalo Bills have to show for four consecutive Super Bowls played in? Nothing!

What do the Minnesota Vikings have to show for four Super Bowls in seven years? Nothing!

At the rate the Dodgers are going, they will also have nothing to show for their recent World Series exploits!

It is frustrating to not win it all.

With that said, I'd rather have a team that makes it 3 out of 4 years to the WS, than have a team that never makes it there.

    About the Padres.....

Yes, they are my team. They are a young team, with a rookie manager, and had not even been in the playoffs since 2006. Give them a couple more years, and we'll see what they're capable of.

The Dodgers on the other hand, are a veteran team with a veteran manager (a World Series "Hero" at that), and have loads of post-season experience. They have two league MVPs and a pitcher who has an MVP award and three Cy Youngs. They should be beyond these constant mistakes and screw-ups.

The last big Padres event I heard on sports radio was years ago, when the owner was having a fire sale of his best players some ~ 20 years ago. That's got to be miserable for SD fans to witness.

Seems like San Diego owners (Chargers too) are cheapskates and are at odds with fans.

    No shade intended.

I can't stand the Dodgers, as they are becoming the Yankees of the National League. I don't think the Rays will win, but they just won't quit, so I can't count them out!

The Rays just tried (unsuccessfully) a straight steal of home. When was the last time somebody did that in the World Series? Or at all?

Well, that was the last unsuccessful steal of home. But was it a straight steal or the back-end of a double steal?

  • TabeTabe Posts: 6,064 ✭✭✭✭✭

MLB.com has the answers for us (now, anyway):

In 1991, Shane Mack was thrown out after an unsuccessful squeeze attempt. I realize it goes down as a steal attempt but I don't think it counts.

It turns out the last unsuccessful* straight steal of home was in 1982 by Lonnie Smith. And there's video of it.

      • Smith looks like he was safe.

The last successful straight steal of home was in 1955 by Jackie Robinson.

    Here's the article: https://www.mlb.com/news/world-series-steal-of-home-history

And the video of Lonnie Smith:

There's a book called "Play it Again, Bud" that has a bunch of sports stories with photos that maybe tell a story different than the accepted version. Jackie's steal is included. One photo shows him safe. One photo shows him out.

    Great book, btw.
