2021 Fun Show Question

TootawlTootawl Posts: 5,877 ✭✭✭

As of the time of this post, the 2021 FUN Show is still on. Is anyone planning on going? If I go, unless my company change the rules, I'm going to have to telework for 2 weeks, I'm a hands-on computer tech. I don't do telework too well. Is anyone else have to do forced telework if you go to the FUN show?

I would love to go but with so much uncertainty I have not made any plans.

Flight's booked, room's booked, and I'm filling out my Exhibit application this weekend. Even with mandatory masks and other restrictions, I can't wait!

I forgot to mention - I've also been working 100% from home since March so all I have to do is pack my laptop and away we go!

I would love to go, but I would have to test or quarantine for 14 days when I come back. Unfortunately my job as Production Manager is 95% hands on, so I would not be able to do my job from computer.

I hope it's a great show for you!

I will be there. I have only missed 4 FUN shows since 1973. Can't wait!

I am skipping it. My kid is not in school, attendance will be down as many clubs that normally come are not, and I have a whole list of other reasons. I dont have any real desire to travel from CA to FL.

Last I heard they planned on running the show with little restriction. Masks encouraged, no attendance cap. Given the age of most attendees I really hope they switch positions on this. FL will be a COVID disaster by the time of FUN so I hope the restrictions change.

We were looking at it and pricing it and then decided against it since it looked like FL "leadership" wasn't even going thru the motions of trying to get a grip on Covid-19. I' betting if the show goes on, there will be far less dealers in attendance than usual. Maybe 2022.

Below are safety measures from the FUN website ..... is there something else you’d recommend? 🤔

“Safety protocols will be in effect.

    1. The Convention Center currently requires mask to be worn.

    2. Temperture checks will be required for all dealers, and public attendees. Method to be determined. Either by a hand held scanner or by a walk-through scanner.

    3. All attendees will need to sign a Covid-19 liability waiver form to be admitted.

    4. Social distancing will be highly encouraged, and practiced.”

I told the other half that in-person voting means quarantine from me.

CT has their list of states and FL is on it. I don't work .. heh perhaps I should say unemployed ... but the other half would be an issue. the other half is a critical employee for half the day. the other half would have to quarantine even if I went.

I've never been to fun, but there's no way I could go this year.

The show is not the problem by itself. It's all the in-between parts of getting there for me. Temp checks are good but it won't catch the asymptomatic carriers. Right now it is a choice whether or not to go, and in my age bracket I feel I don't need to mess with it. Everyone needs to figure it out for themselves and use science, not feelings.

This is way different than I heard a week or so ago so glad they doing this part. I think he meant more of Florida as a state being wide open now with a Gov who said they will not be closing back down.

I drive to it, so I can reserve my decision until the last minute. In the mean time, the room rates have been going down. :)

I think that it will be a smaller than usual show, but should still be fun it's ago.

I will not be going as I have no desire for a cross country trip, at this point I think that everyone that wants to go should make plans but also plan to be flexible. There are many what ifs that could alter the viability of this show

I haven't missed FUN for a decade - a few of us make it an event for socializing as well as coins each year. But life is short, if I ended up being one of the 10% who contracts CV 19 that has long term problems, or even the 1% that die, just to look at some coins, well, that would not make much sense. So I am waiting this out even with all of the potential precautions they are taking.........

Hard to say if the show can successfully go on. I say this because signs point to upticks. Yesterday in my town 80 students took their PSAT at the local school. A few hours later one tested positive for Covid now these 80 families are under quarantine as a precautionary measure. I can only imagine how large scale shows can be successfully at this moment. With that said I’m 100% planning on being there even with the 14 day quarantine upon my return to NY. Only time will tell

They had to cancel the PSAT test at the scheduled testing site at a nearby community at the last minute due to a person testing positive there a day before.

Curious how or if it can be made up as it seems National Merit Scholarships are dependent on taking the PSAT.

If I could be teleported into a bubble of sorts like that I'd think of going but unfortunately in order to arrive at the venue I'd have to run a gauntlet of folks who don't mask up for whatever reason. I saw a news video recently that showed unmasked patrons cheek by jowl in a Florida watering hole. That scares me.

    Cheek by jowl ! 😆

Yes of course there’s the whole ‘getting there’ part. As you know we’re in the same boat in that regard. But the suggestions on here that FL is a special freakshow isn’t accurate — you can find the cheek by jowl phenomenon everywhere, if you move around here and there even a bit. Like NY, NJ and CA for example.

Did Boeing cancel their January show already ? ..... 😢

Yes. The club canceled the show over a month ago.

    Spring PNNA?
    Spring ANA in Phoenix?

    I sure hope so.

  • Looking forward to it, and I'll be there as long as they don't cancel the show. It'll be interesting to see how it goes, as I have not been to a coin show since the ANA around March, and since Covid-19, there's not been a major show nationwide and nobody knows how well attended or active a major show will be post-virus. It might be a fantastic show, or it might be slow...
