CLCT is on a roll!

Nice move from $15 to $58 in six months, right in the middle of a global pandemic. Well done, PCGS. 🤯

Always looking for original, better date VF20-VF35 Barber quarters and halves, and a quality beer.

I have contributed quite substantially to their growth in profits this quarter

PE of 49! Wish there was a forward PE ratio published. Awfully expensive stock. How have fundamentals changed?
Excellent. Investors are making money.
Not until they sell.
I also wonder what fundamentals have changed?
To be fair, nearly every stock is up a ton from over 6 months ago.
The next three months may be tumultuous..... Fun to watch. Cheers, RickO
I was actually going to post a new thread on this topic. They announced some interesting news over the last few days:
They're buying another big commercial property next door to their current location for expansion. Looks like they're using it to get their employees back in the office while social distancing, for now. https://www.nasdaq.com/press-release/collectors-universe-announces-facility-expansion-to-increase-operations-capacity-and
They also just appointed two new members to the board of CLCT who seem to have tech backgrounds. Hopefully these are two people they are leveraging to help them with the AI integration as that is what they seem to be here for. The expansion of the facility also seems like they will be using it in the future for better imaging technology and other advances.
https://www.nasdaq.com/press-release/collectors-universe-appoints-two-new-independent-directors-2020-09-29
Background on the two new board members:
"Ms. Bardeen serves as VP and Chief Technology Officer of World Wide Enterprise and Commercial Industries at Microsoft, where she acts as a technical and strategy advisor. She brings significant experience in driving technical innovation and leading teams at a global organization. Ms. Bardeen will chair a newly formed Strategy Committee that will explore ways to use technology to enhance value for customers and shareholders.
Ms. Leuer serves as Chief Executive Officer of CyberScout, a cybersecurity and identity protection solutions firm. She brings more than 20 years of strategy and operations experience and has a strong understanding of how to launch, scale and optimize businesses. With the appointment of Ms. Bardeen and Ms. Leuer, the Board will comprise 10 directors, 9 of whom are independent."
I was thinking about buying some when it was under $16. Darn!
@clarkbar04 - To be fair, nearly every stock is up a ton from over 6 months ago.
True, but very very few are up 400%, at least the equities in my portfolio!

Bought at $14 (smart), sold at $36, Stupid!!!
Next year you are likely to be more pleased about your sell point, a market reckoning is coming and most stocks have too high of P/Es right now (look at TSLA for heavens sake) - the 2nd wave of CV 19 is going to bring everything back down.

A $22 gain per share isn't stupid. It is smart. Stupid may prove to be buys at very high P/E levels.
So I'm confused. Are investments worthless until sold, or are they worth what we paid for them?
An example: Back around 2001 I owned what was supposed to be a top quality stock. Reports from the top executive were rosy. One day I came back from lunch and heard on the news that the executive had been telling tales when it came to the company's actual financial health. I lost half of my investment in about two hours. The rest of the story: A class action suit was brought against the executive (who had banked a big bonus just before the bad news broke). The class action suit dragged on for over ten years. I eventually recovered about $300 of my loss as a result. This was a tiny fraction of the loss.
The fundamentals need to be solid and the information supplied by the company needs to be truthful.
The market does seem like it’s very extended, but I’ve felt that way for 10 years, so what do I know.
Also, saying stock isn’t worth anything until you sell, is like saying that your complete set of PCGS MS67 Morgan dollars isn't worth anything until you sell. 😁

“All investments have risk and past performance is not a guarantee of future success”...or something close to that.
Being up 400% means there’s a long way to fall before long-term (Already owners) investors are hurting.
Does CLCT pay a dividend? Easy to find out, but not while I’m typing on my phone.
@daltex stick investments are a reflection of institutional and public opinion of the overall value of a company (divided by the number of shares)...they can skyrocket and they can plummet and literally be worth nothing, regardless of what you paid. There’s more to it than that, of course, but there’s usually no floor.
So we're saying that investment value can change from time to time even when we don't ell the investment? I'm shocked, shocked!

Div about 1.2% at current stock price. This is why the share price crashed a couple years back, cut the dividend by a significant amount. Buyers priced the shares accordingly but it has risen ever since by bringing in the new and out with the old.

People in this forum care more about dividend than the rest of the market does.
Right after Heather cleaned this place up.
P/E of 49? Find it hard to believe they can generate revenue through volume and fee increases to bring profits up sufficiently to reduce the PE to a more "normal" level.
But then during COVID, bankrupt companies like Hertz spiked higher due to speculative trading and this one even initially planned a secondary offering until the SEC squashed it.
The current environment is a financial mania and has been one for the most part for over 20 years; the supposed "new normal" but actually the greatest mania in the history of civilization. If participating make sure you have a "chair" when the music stops.
People who bought at levels lower than the current price have made money, even if they haven’t sold. They might lose it back before they sell, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t made money at this point. Their gains just aren’t realized, for tax purposes, until they’ve sold.

They aren’t worthless, nor is their value determined by your cost. Their value is based upon what the market will be bear - in the case of stocks, that’s typically the posted “bid“ price at any given time.

Nice jump today. Revenue up 52% Y/Y.
Holy cow. $70/share!
