Well, the flights aren’t refundable but only cost $69 each way from my hometown of Birmingham. I can use that credit for a year if I decide not to go. The hotel is refundable.
So I figured it was worth the money risk.
I’m not stupid. I won’t go unless things are much better and safer than they are now.
Fingers crossed and prayers for a better world in 3 or 4 months!!

I drive to it, and I am planning to go. Like the others, I hope it comes off.

I sure hope your flight and room are not nonrefundable.

My flight is actually a credit from another trip that got cancelled earlier this year. In fact, the air fares have come down so much I managed to book a First Class ticket and still have more credit left over. So, if FUN gets cancelled, I'll just reuse the credit for, probably, next summer's ANA (if that happens). Fortunately, the hotel is fully refundable.

I hope FUN does happen.... Small shows have been increasing, so perhaps FUN will occur.... the restrictions in Florida have been lifted, so personal precautions will be in order. Cheers, RickO

I've booked my table but am waiting to book a room. If things don't settle down in Fl. Covid wise I might not go.

I have only missed four FUN shows since 1973. If they have it I will be there. The large regional shows of MNS and BRNA came off without any problems in July and August.

There is a 2-day intermediate grading course I would like to go to. I am still reluctant to fly now, maybe things will get better or I can take more time and drive.

  • spacehaydukespacehayduke Posts: 5,442 ✭✭✭✭✭

I will not go for the first time in a decade because the chances of it happening are so low to almost non-existent. Even if airlines still exist by 2021........... I have multiple credits from United for multiple cancelled flights this year, not hopeful.

I just got a call the 2-day course I registered for has been cancelled because not enough sign ups :( They hope to have it during summer FUN.

Only a small percentage of the country will be vaccinated by that time. Probably a bit too risky for me.

  • MrEurekaMrEureka Posts: 23,892 ✭✭✭✭✭

Best guess is that the show will take place, attendance will be down 50%, and only idiots like me will be there.

But FWIW, I plan to limit my time on the bourse floor, probably leave a day early, and generally do whatever I can to minimize the risks.

Andy, if you want to minimize the risks, I suggest that instead of leaving a day early, you arrive a day late.😉

Funny, I was just thinking that Heritage should sell the Simpson patterns on the Monday before the show, for similar reasons!

I believe today was the last day for dealers to cancel and still get a refund on their bourse tables.

I cancelled a couple days ago for a variety of reasons. It just wont be worth cross country travel for the risk of a show that will be smaller than normal. Coupled with my 2nd grader still not being back it school it is just a no go for me.

Even though it's a cheap and easy 1 hour flight for me, I'm still probably going to skip out on this year because I fear the show will be a dud with half the dealers just not showing up. I'm not worried about Covid, personally...I had it in August, and was asymptomatic. Very disappointing, but what are you going to do. I may have to make up for it by going to Summer FUN for the first time. Although, that said, a "dud" of a Winter Fun may be the equivalent of a normal Summer FUN, anyways..hmm, on second thought...

When I posted back in September, I was all excited about going. Now, after contracting the Virus, most likely at the SCNA show, I have cancelled all my reservations. Like Spacehayduke, I have multiple credits for airfares built up from cancelled flights (in my case, American) and who knows when I'll get to use them.

I will wait until my personal MD says it's OK to get the vaccine - until then I'm staying home.

A dumb question from me. Why would you get a vaccine if you’ve already contracted the virus?

It appears, based on studies completed, that the antibodies diminish in a few months. There are documented cases of people getting the virus a second time.

  • oldUScoinsoldUScoins Posts: 232 ✭✭✭✭

Yeah so the big question now is how long does the vaccination protection last.

Yup. Now, my doctor says I'm the healthiest patient she has for someone my age. However, I have hit the big 7-0 so, at my age, I'm not taking any more chances. Hey, I would love to go to the show, I've received Exhibit awards at the last couple of ANA and FUN shows and would like a shot at some more. But, at this point, we're just going to have to wait.

Which is why annual flu shots exist. Not one to assume much but they're probably gonna create a combo viral flu shot for the future. We'll see. Peace Roy

  • Should be a good show, although doubtless attendance will be down some. I think a lot of collectors will still show up since it's the first "open" major show in pretty close to a year by the time it rolls around in January. I'll have my regular table there as always.

Governor Ron DiSantis invites you to come worry free, and hey, just leave that mask at home because they don't work. as someone with a compromising health condition at a somewhat advanced age, I am in my "bubble" as things sort themselves out. I can only hope Yorkshireman and everyone else makes wise decisions and stays healthy and COVID-19 free, wherever you go.
