I spoke to Whitman, and they are currently working on the new edition.

There is no release date yet.

Ha! They've been working on the new edition most of 2020, as it was originally supposed to have been released in January 2021.

I just received notice from Amazon that my order for the 6th Ed Vol 2 was canceled.

It's too bad that the authors don't care about the negative attitude folks like me are having....

While we don't know the actual reasons for one delay after another after another after another after another, I wouldn't be surprised if they blamed it on Covid. Many businesses and people find it easy to put blame on delays on Covid, but often that's just a lame excuse and not true. I find that excuse wearing very thin, and it retains little credibility!

While I continue to see the 6th Edition Vol 1 on eBay offered at high prices, I have not seen 6th Edition Vol 2 offered, especially since it has not yet been printed! if it is listed, look at the photo to make sure it's truly the 6th Edition Volume 2 before ordering. Some sellers may be a bit "sloppy" and make errors in their listings.

I would bet they definitely use covid as an excuse and that when it comes out it will be priced the highest it has been as they know so many are waiting on it. Anyone can have problems, but to be a commercial entity and not even respond to the mulitudes of questions here alone is very unprofessional. My opinion of them is failing.

Twenty days ago, Dentuck was kind enough to provide an update. We might have it by the end of the year.

  • Hopefully, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc. will have preorders again when the time comes. Is there a good source to keep eyes on to see when preorders are available? I'm sure somebody in here will post about it though, so I'll be watching.

As a cherry picker, variety collector, and one who loves books and reference....I haven't up dated my CPG in years! There's so much free on line. Just book mark the sites ,and bingo your looking at the series in question ,and other information about that series.
Yes I know some series there's little information on line ...but if you dig deep enough you will find the answer.
I do love books yhere are no less than 50 next to my chair in the family room.
But the CPG can't always be trusted. The 1829 half dime listing was incorrect . They made an attempt ,then stated it was not going to be included in the next edition.
But never the less theres just so many web sites ,and forums to find the correct answer.

Yesterday I excitedly read that article too, and then searched Amazon, eBay, and then the Whitman site itself! Crickets! NOTHING! It appears the Greysheet organization published a piece provided by Whitman about the “hopefully” soon to be released book that’s now running over one year later than originally planned! And please don’t use the phony excuse that the delay is due mainly to Covid.

The good news is in my search yesterday I saw (and ordered) on Amazon the 6th edition Volume 1 hardcover guide for $79 plus tax, free shipping.

Edit - I just checked Amazon. Apparently I got VERY lucky, as a vendor listed only one or very few. Those are now sold out, so the ones Amazon now shows are $299!

you would think Whitman would reprint some more of the last version if profiteers are getting 500% original retail.

I'd buy the kindle version for far less before paying $70+ for an older hardcopy of the older edition. Like $10-20 each depending upon the particular volume.

Anybody have a update on book? Can somebody who attends the Baltimore show ask when and if the book will be published.

  • Namvet69Namvet69 Posts: 9,077 ✭✭✭✭✭

Tried that and three Whitman people gave me the deer in the headlights stare. Given the online resources, I'd bet they don't print it. Buy an old one. Peace Roy

  • Apparently, preorders have opened back up with a tentative release date of Dec. 6, 2022.

Barnes & Noble (lists Dec. 6, 2022, as the publish date)
Amazon (no publish date listed yet)

Other stores I've never used before:

Transline Wholesale Coin Supplies (lists Nov. 1, 2022, as the publish date; doesn't specify release date
StampPhenom (lists Nov. 1, 2022, as the publish date; doesn't specify release date)

I still don't see anything from Whitman directly about it, so who knows if this is finally going to happen or not.

I spoke with a Ms. Dawn Burbank, Whitman VP of sales and merchandising, at the Baltimore show. She would not be specific but I can tell you, she was/is very upset with a number of aspects related to the release of the Cherrypicker's guide. It's apparently not just one issue. It's a number of issues. I was reading between the lines of what she was saying......Materials? Printing? Cut-off of updated information? etc....

She is most definitely upset and very frustrated with the process and powers to be. She knew all the key players by name! She however, was confident that it WILL eventually happen.

It is funny, when I got back onto this forum I was ready to get this and do some searching. During that time I ended up focusing on completely different things and very little on varieties. I wonder if when this comes out eventually if I’ll have swung back to being interested again?

Hope it comes soon so I can buy back the ones I sold for ridiculous amounts. I have them on kindle if needed. Shame they just can't announce a time frame and live with it.

Local coin shop said they were told the third week in December they would get their order. However, a timetable has been shared before and passed so not holding out hope as of yet so to speak. So do not expect follow-through until 2023.

This site here says February 1st, 2023.

I got the same email from Amazon last night. I locked in my pre-order on Amazon back in November when someone on this thread mentioned they had opened back up. I assume they have closed again due to the continued delay.
