Just for fun, post Labor Day, name your top 3 numismatists who you have bought coins from, learned the secrets of the trade from, or have sat in a hot tub sipping tequila with. Real stories please. Post their strengths and idiosyncrasies for the archives ;-)

I’ll start:

Brandon @ Anaconda ... truly, the most brilliant numismatist I’ve ever met, thinks he’s an IT guy. Still, the Rain Man of high-end coins. Go figure ;-)

Laura Sperber ... absolutely no one more in tune with the current state of the market. If you are in it to make money, send her a check. Can’t post a grammatically correct or spell-checked market report to save her life ... but, everything she says is 100% true and on-point ;-)

Tony Teranova ... been around so long, he probably provided the powder keg bands for the first Fugio blanks. He’s like a human Wikipedia for 18th and 19th century coinage ... because he was there ;-)

I'm sure most responses will likely include the name chesterb so to make it fair let's amend the OPs question to name 3 numismatists...NOT named chesterb!

Dave Bowers. Amazing interests in numismatics, very personable, and full of interesting recollections and observations. I bought my first MS collector coins from him, about 55 years ago, using money I saved up from mowing neighbors' lawns. I have fond memories of the Rare Coin Review, and wish I had a complete set of issues.

John Kraljevich. His interests in contemporary counterfeits, antique electrotypes, early coppers, etc., align very closely with mine. I like his cataloging style too. Years ago, I attended his Colonial Americana short course (ANA Summer Seminars)---it was a lot of fun. He got me interested in early medals with U. S./Colonial themes, as well as foreign coins that circulated in the 13 colonies and U. S. through 1857, and even mechanical detectors of counterfeit U. S. gold and silver coins. I purchased a couple of dozen interesting pieces from him, mostly raw medals and counterstamped coins, and a couple of dozen pieces of related interest (antique coin balances and counterfeit coin detectors).

Tom Reynolds. A gentleman, connoisseur. I learned many interesting things about large cents from him. The large cents I bought from him were all purchased raw. His counsel gave me the courage to buy raw coins in the age of slabs and cowbells.

Three is a pretty short list and I would have to carefully think about that.

QDB. Seen it all, done it all. Very personable. He's a living legend and a bridge from the past to the present. Outstanding author.

RWB. Always generous with his knowledge and time. Another outstanding author.

Tony. Retired B&M owner of my most favorite shop where I was initially looked at with a skepticism but through the years was treated like family and received an education that money cant buy.

    R. Kenny Duncan-Purchased many of my best coins from him and his family.
Bruce Fox-Wrote the 'Bible' on Walkers and owned 'Golden West Numismatics', which both lit a fire within me, as a young twenty-something, in the early 1990s. I always coveted those early Walkers!!
QDB-Living legend, life-long numismatist and prolific author. Many lazy Sundays were spent reading his books and articles.

Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

Well I certainly know who aren’t my favorites 😎.

    My favorites are
1- My Grandfather who started me off on the right foot. Wish we had more time but I’m thankful for what we had together.
2 - Bill Bugert Seated half dollar guru
Who shares so much with all numismatists.
3- split decision CRO/David Kahn both are trustworthy dealers who are willing to help out fellow collectors.

None that really fall within the scope as required by the op. Changing the scope I would say Hoagy Carmichael... Anyone who assembled a collection like his... Composed Stardust and recorded with Bix Beiderbecke and Bubber Miley should make the stories at the bar second to none.

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
