I’m bad on grading these (haven’t looked at many over the years). I’m mainly commenting because it looks like it’s made of copper. Such an usual look for a nickel.

I like it John, nice color and pleasing surfaces, decent luster with a good strike,
nice visible RPD, and some hairline cracks ... which you almost HAVE to have on a Shield Nickel!
Looks mid AU (53?) to my eyes, and a excellent example for that range

AU55 RPD FS-301
Nice RPD.
Many good ones in this series though.

AU50, and I’ve always liked the 1867 w/rays....much scarcer than the ‘66.

I like that type of shield nickel
Another head scratcher. I though it was perhaps a weak strike as to why ATS gave it a MS61;
...but our host gave it an AU53 . This happens on occasion when you play the crossover game.
Thank you for your comments!

That’s what it looks like to me too. I recently sent in a early buffalo nickel, it went 55 the first time. I sent it in again and it went 62.
Wow. I mean I think I agree with our host (at least from what I can see in the pictures), but that's a mighty big difference of opinion.

This sort of thing bothers me. The coin is either an Unc., or it isn't. I think they had some strike problems with the early nickels. I'm not sure because I only collected a PF and business strike type coin of the series.
The coin is either not fully struck - hence the lack of detail in the shield, some leaves and rays, but there would be no luster breaks - or what I just wrote would represent wear, with the related luster breaks. If one service graded it MS 63 and the other MS 61, I would not have commented in this thread.
There is a weak strike to be sure, but it clearly looks to have some wear to me. Just in case you didn't know, you can set a "minimum grade" when doing a crossover.
First impression was AU57
Gratifying to see the TPG consensus agrees:
(61 + 53) / 2 = 57
