That's so close to the line of Bn vrs. RB I wouldn't want to make the call from pictures!

    mmmm .... I like <3

Love the color, the strike and the clash

Not sure on grade or designation ... no reason why I can't see that in a 64BN though

I like that a lot! Nice die clash and die crack, but the woodgrain toning is what really steals the show for me. Nice piece!

I don't see why it wouldn't make 65. Whether BN or RB is a toss-up.

    1865 2C O/R Die Clash FS-401/901, MS63BN

I took a chance on the color designation coming back as it was given from ATS, I thought it was RB as well, but our host saw it with different eyes...and bestowed a BN. It is what is.

    Color

On all Mint State and Proof copper coins (Half Cents, Large Cents, Small Cents, Two Cent pieces and some patterns) one of three color ratings is assigned.

Red (RD) (95% or more original red visible)

Red & Brown (RB) (5% to 95% or original red visible)

Brown (BN) (Less than 5% of original red color visible)

Obviously color is an unbroken continuum, so the three color designations represent ranges of remaining original (red) color. Below is shown a Braided Hair large cent in three different color designation levels.

Full Red copper coins typically demand market prices several times that of their Brown, or Red & Brown counterparts.

Perhaps you have seen this coin on the CoinFacts TrueView variety page. The die clash was mentioned a few times above and even the "2" can be partially seen within the vertical shield lines on the obverse.

Thank you for your comments and I will post another of the four submitted cross-overs soon.

What was the reason for accepting a crossover at a different/lower color designation? And would you have accepted a lower numerical grade?

The value is in the Variety. The color would have helped the value, but...i thought that RB was very apparent.

The value is in the Variety, and I thought it was a no-brainer RB, and lessor grade would not be accepted.

    Thank you.

Well...Late to the game... had the grade right... but thought it was RB....the ATS slab looks more BN than the first picture....seems the large image accentuates the R....Nice coin. Cheers, RickO
