THIS is why I don't like UPS!

oih82w8oih82w8 Posts: 12,246 ✭✭✭✭✭

I am relying on UPS to be on-time with their delivery window of 12-4 pm. I need to get to my evening part-time job by 5:00. I waited as long as I could, but, no delivery vehicle in sight. The PCGS parcel does indicate "signature required", so I should find one of those "oops we missed you" sticky notes on the door, since no one was there to sign for the parcel. Wrong. I received a text message from UPS that my package was delivered...and the receipt indicates "signature on file", left on porch. I am sweating bullets right now, and neither of my neighbors are answering their phones, so i left them a voice mail to please pick up the package off my porch. The waiting continues.

I think you just developed a migraine and “really need to go home and lay down!” :#

Here’s hoping it is there safe and sound when you return.

PCGS submission returned to me via UPS two weeks ago. Delivered by an unmarked auto (red Tesla) and left on front porch with no door bell ring or knock. Wife just happened by the front window when he was getting back in his car. Sig required and no such critter on file.

Not for nothing, but doesn't the "Sig on File" mean that you gave them permission to use your digital signature?

Due to the China virus, shipping agents, including USPS, are currently not knocking on doors for signatures. Person making delivery is being allowed to sign on behalf of the recipient. Hopefully ebay and paypal will recognize this as meeting their signature requirement.

I did not give consent for such a practice. If a signature is required, there is a reason.

and as pointed out above they currently are making an exception to getting actual recipient signatures.

Hopefully the package is still there...i would rather have the coins versus an insurance claim.

Reminds me of a story I heard...

Once upon a time a federally licensed gun collector (legally) ordered a vintage Russian revolver as well as the uncommon ammo used in it. The package was supposed to not only be signed for, but signed for by an over-21 adult.

UPS left the package at the door when no one was home. :s

I know they are under pressure to deliver the goods, especially now with the virus. But yikes!

I will say that in the one or two cases when I needed to file a claim, UPS came through.

My ups guy knows me and where I work, he signed and brought it to where I worked the next day. Guess I am one of the lucky ones!

I feel your pain having been in this position several times in the past. I'm fortunate to have friends and co-workers in the neighborhood. The thought of a valuable package sitting exposed on my porch is enough to send me over the edge....

    Good luck!

I know you mentioned that you were at work but UPS offers a live in route, "Map delivery. " meaning, they post a live UPS truck that has your package. When I know the day I expect my package, I track the truck down in route before he even gets close to my house. Then I find him, then show an ID, sign and were both on our ways! No more worrying and no more waiting. ;)

Glad to hear you got your package! All’s well that ends well!

I was going to ask you for your address, so one of us could pick it up for you (lol).

Enjoy, now that your stress level has returned to normal.

Yes... Fedex, USPS, UPS... all are 'dropping' the packages and doing electronic signatures .... whether or not you have one on file... Drop the box and run....been doing it for a couple of months during this virus pandemic. Even if you were home, you would not have been asked to sign. Glad to hear the package was OK.... Cheers, RickO

I guess PO Box holders are the only ones who still have to supply a signature....at least I do. Anyone having signature required mail delivered to a PO Box without having to sign?

USPS isn't any better.... I sent a signature required letter and it was just stuck in a rural mailbox. The tracking info just said "signature illegible". At least they put it in the correct mailbox.

Have had multiple Fedex and USPS packages delivered that needed signature. No knock or anything, just placed by front door. Installing cameras this weekend to alert me when there's activity. It's nuts.

How are they getting away with charging for signature required when signature required isn't a thing right now? Is there even a point in paying for it when shipping packages?

I was thinking the same thing. Ive been paying for a signature all this time, and they're probably just pocketing the fee and delivering it.
