GC produced some strong results:

The coin sold at HA less than a year ago:
Congrats to the consignor and to the new owner! Both should open a bottle of Cristal tonight and celebrate!!
About a $7K difference but I don't see the 'WHY' of it. I guess that the moon and stars just aligned tonight.

Wow ... even at 64 ... That coin is awesome.
Two people wanted the coin and bid it up. You're right that the moon and stars were aligned for this auction and the winner is the seller!
WF,
I saw that as well, when I went back and looked at the gc price just before closing, I saw it was way up to 18k then, and I remember this coin selling at heritage last year for way less. I am not sure why the large increase all of a sudden, as others in past year (some nice, some not) no where near the price realized on this one.
Impressive.... The seller is the real winner here... Cheers, RickO
@Walkerfan I was watching that one as well, not in the market for it but definitely watching it. I'll likely have to settle for something closer to AU to fill that hole
Here’s mine. No immediate plans to upgrade, cross or replace it. I might want to send it to CAC, though. Do you guys think it will sticker?

With 74 bids and getting way over CPG of $13.9 k the seller did well.
I think the ngc 21-d coin ms 64 50c should sticker.
If you look at the GC photos they do not show the clatter that the Heritage photos show. In the GC photos one could claim the coin has a chance to get a + or more... however, once viewed with the HA photos you can see the coin is a solid 64 with little claim higher IMHO.
@Walkerfan that is quite nice
Yes, there is a rather large abrasion in the telltale, right-facing field above the motto.
The coin has a good strike, though.
But, the luster looks impaired.

In response to your question I see no reason to think your coin would not CAC from those photos. In fact I would question why not a gold if it only got a green.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Man, my comments were just referring to the two in the OP. I was not commenting on your coin.
Your reverse is very nice. Full luster without any detracting anything.
The obverse- The picture makes it look like there is something going on between 10 and 2 upper area... looks like a discoloration... I think it is the photo.
Your thumb is there.. The coin does come with decent thumbs and decent strikes. You have the classic obverse field clatter but not in a detracting manner. I think she will CAC but would not be completely surprised if she did not. The luster carries your coin there is no doubt about that. Especially, when so many of these high grade D's come from that grouping with really dark toning. The ones I used to have were heavily toned a 58 and a 65 but that was 10+ years ago. I remember when I got my 21-D in 58.. There was a member here who was working on a 21 year date set and he pushed me over the 10k mark which was really where I was trying to draw the limit.... LOL... Wow that was a while ago.
Anyway sorry for the reminiscing! Yours will green CAC because the luster carries it. Reverse of your is cherry. Love the Walkers. Was my first sets I put together...

Great post, Jeff, and you know I'm a 'fan' of that date as well, and also of your coin!
We've discussed this coin in detail offline, but for the rest of the audience, I also think it should CAC.
The PCGS walker looks like a 64,4 to 64.5 as I viewed it before. It is not an upgrade candidate or a gold sticker candidate.
The NGC walker looks nice but the picture does not help me evaluate it.
Walkerfan - As others mentioned, I think the Heritage photo of the auction coin was by far the better of the two, and I hope the serious bidders of said coin either viewed it personally or had auction representation. I do not like the GC pic, and things like this are why I go on about how you need to see the coin in person, of have someone you trust see it for you.
Your coin has a better reverse strike than the auction coin. That said, the auction coin appears to have original skin while yours appears to have been dipped at some point. That said, JA beaned an attractive 36 S I had that was dipped properly, so I don't see why your coin shouldn't bean as well. Yours is an attractive coin.
Thanks. I appreciate your thoughts. I think that the auction coin has also been dipped and more harshly, as there is little to no luster. I also see some residue on it.

Sure looks GEM to me. Gold CAC sticker?
By far the prettiest 1921 Walking Liberty half I've seen. I honestly didn't know they even existed with that booming luster.
