NEWP 1936 S Walker MS65 - one more to go to complete the circulation strike late date set

ThreeCentSilverFLThreeCentSilverFL Posts: 1,687 ✭✭✭✭✭

Picked up this ‘36 S NGC MS65 with some nice golden toning and good strike and thumb.

Now I just need the ‘37 S to complete The late date circulation strike set.

Need about 9 more to finish the early set, much tougher obviously...

Almost a medallic appearance there! Picture look like a bit of lustre dimming obverse.

    Love that Milled British (1830-1960)

Nice coin.. The 36-s Comes with a great strike... The 37-s can be challenging... I like the look of this one...

Good strike for a 36 S....I like it.

    Surfaces look clean, too.

Nice coin! The broad, flat rims really frame it nicely. Late set goes 1934-47?

The 36-S usually comes nice, but the strike can vary. You have a nice on there. I'm looking for a 66 for my set, but I'm OK with this 65 I have for now. It's pretty hammered too.

The 37-S is a bit tougher, but I did manage to find a nice one in 66.

    Here is my 36-S:

36 seems to be the most well made 1930s date across all 3 mints. 35 was the worst.

MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

It's up there, all three mints produced hammered strikes that year. Here is my best to worst years 1930's list:

1933-S - I have yet to see a poorly struck MS piece.
1936 and 1934 are tied to me, high quality from all mints in general. I did run across a horribly struck 1936 MS Philly some time back, should have picked it up.
    1938, Philly better than Denver
1939, Denver seems worse than the other two
1937, Philly is the best one, the other ywo can be hit or miss
1935 - even at the bottom, it's still better than some of the branch 1940's mints, Philly by far the best one.

I’d agree with that. And in 34 the Denver being the worst of the 3 with the weird date/head strike weakness.

MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

Sweet coin with a strong strike. How is the luster? It is difficult to tell from the photos. I also love the full squared off rims. They accent your coin well.

1933 S starts the late date set after the ‘30 - ‘32 hiatus.

Agree! It seems like there’s two dozen 1921 D’s in Good that come through the auctions for every nice original ‘37 S in 65 that isn’t mushy and tarnished...

Nice luster, hard to photo. Thanks

@ThreeCentSilverFL.... That is a very nice WLH.... I really like the WLH halves.... They were pocket change in my younger years.... Well, not for me as a kid, but people did carry them...and I often got them on my paper route. The last of the beautiful U.S. coins.... Cheers, RickO
