Hi guy's, my new acquisition from today. Back to buying coins. Lol. Three questions. #1. Is this NGC'S Latest holder? #2. Doesn't this darn Merc.
looks as if it can grade a"67"? This coin appears so, so nice. The luster sold me! Even if, it doesn't have FB's. And #3. No Micro S, huh? Opinions, thanks guy's.

Strong luster, but the hits in the prime focal areas probably limit to the current 66. Very nice, Can't help you with the other questions, but someone will probably come along soon who can!
"Ball serif S", also known as "knob S".

Pretty coin - looks like maybe a few grade-limiting scratches near liberty's mouth (hard to tell of they are scratches on the coin or die scratches).
WoW! Thanks for the info. Probably BETTER than the Micro-s, huh? Very Cool, did not know about this MM. Thanks again, my friend.

That is not a Micro S, it's what is sometimes referred to as the Knob-tailed S (Mercateers correct me if I'm wrong).
The Micro S has very squared and pronounced serifs.
Not sure about the holder, some kind of promo gig so far as I can tell.
Okay, grade ... why I don't see that as a 67;
Something going on in front of the nose, chin and lips, and it doesn't look like die polish.
Possibly a couple ticks that are too focal (hard to tell as your pictures are actually a little blurry, which is surprising for you).
Hair is too flat framing the face and so is the base of the wing, curls at the cap.
my 2c anyway

Thank You, all my friends! Yes, I do see the scuffs near her face. A tad different than my ole famous 1920s Merc. Lol. Can one imagine if my '20s looked half as good?

Please only remember my opening Sig Line.My understanding is that both the inverted knob S (pictured above) and the micro S are known from multiple dies - not sure which one is harder to find. Yours isn't inverted, though, just the normal knob S.
Oh, I see. How 'bout the "Trumpet S"?

However, they can be found on 1945-S dimes (just found this out on another thread and confirmed with some image searching). Trumpet S is a good find on 1941 and 1943 mercury dimes.
Hard to tell as the obv close up photo is slightly fuzzy but I would not crack that out as those scratches look dangerously like damage, at the very least between those marks and the soft strike the coin is maxed at the 66 grade. That is the most current NGC slab I believe.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
(hard to tell as your pictures are actually a little blurry...
Yeah, sorry for the blurriness. Will fix later...

Thanks to all for the diagnostic tidbits. Peace Roy

Nice luster on that Merc...but the marks in the field in front of Liberty's face ruin it for me...Cheers, RickO
It's flashy as a get out!
But not 67 flashy
Nice Merc I like
Nice coin!
No FSB?
Blah!
Well, you learn something new every day! @AlanSki and @keyman64 mentioned on another thread that trumpet S can be found on 1945-S dimes, and sure enough, they are correct. This one apparently was left off the the VarietyVista list in error.
