And Then There Were 11... ($20 Lib. Gold CAC Gold)

LeeroybrownLeeroybrown Posts: 462 ✭✭✭✭✭

Well, I have to say I am beyond thrilled with the progression of my set as last time I posted the set, it was only at 8...

...so, through a bit of eb and flow, and not to mention outstanding friends giving me their insight, support, and OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE A WIN-WIN in buying a few gold cacs to allow for a “GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY“ on both ends as well... The ‘Box of 20’ is over half full.

Please see below the pics of the additions and also the new and progressing set pics as now there is 11...

Thanks and would love and welcome thoughts as usual !!!

What an absolutely brilliant set. I have no doubt this has been challenging to get mostly OGH and gold stickers on medium wear 20s. Well Done!!!!!

I'm a little confused as you say the set went from eight pieces to eleven, but you've posted four coins above the group shot in the OP. Nonetheless, all of those four are beautiful and look to be clearly undergraded. Congrats on continuing to expand a very cool set!

The short answer is that I was at 9, sold 2 and then bought 4 more... upgrades and higher quality, better fit for my set! : )

This one is going to be tough to beat. Cool gold 😎

I like your new additions. I find type 1 DE’s to be much more numismatically interesting than common date type 3’s. My only concern is if the price of gold continues to increase what’s going to happen to the OGH/CAC premium.

Leeroy- Which one is your favorite? If you can’t pick just one how about a top 3? I’m really torn but that 1853 is fricken sweet... But then again they all are. Congrats

Those are great new additions! The 1850 is one of my favorite dates as the first year of issue. You have are nice, original example.

    Oh man, great additions! <3

    I love your set!

The doily is new, as is the blue label I think, what's the 3rd new one?

@ Crusty - To be honest, they are all very special for different reasons. But, if I had to pick just one, it would be the 1850 vf25 (first year).

They are all really really nice pieces though, however.

@skier07 - Are you saying that buying these with gold going up will cause premiums to increase as well and be harder to buy or are you saying premiums would be muddled and lost because of rising gold prices? IMO, I think premiums have already risen on these ($20 Lib gold cac stickers) quite a bit over the last couple years... And will probably continue to rise most likely...???

I’m totally impressed with your collection. Bowled over actually.
Thank you for sharing such an amazing set👍🇺🇸

I think if the price of gold gets high enough the premium on older gold coins will decrease. If gold gets high enough common date type 1DE’s might not be worth much more than melt. I also think the OGH/CAC premium would also decrease.

@skier07 - I definitely see how that may occur as you stated above. Another perspective is this: I always looked at the "premiums" over and above gold as a sliding scale and as premiums go up on gold value, the sliding scale on premiums would go up as well at the same/ similar % as the gold value increase. Only exception factors would be supply and demand, liquidity factor (is it easier to sell or harder due to S/D), Original Surfaces, Eye Appeal, Scarcity based on survival rates for the date/ grade for condition rarity, or just dumb luck with a handful of people all going after the same coin (which has happened to me a time or two as well).

None-The-Less, I do believe personally that the days of buying a gold cac sticker $20 Lib for $1,800 may be all, but gone with few exceptions out in the marketplace here and there.

Also, I have reviewed many of the archives and especially Type I and Type II gold cac $20 Libs are getting harder and harder to win/ buy as in particular, the supply and numismatic gold appeal seem to be causing prices to go higher and higher. Also ironically, most (I would say 80-90%) of the gold cac gold $20 Libs are PQ for the grade, under-graded in most cases, and have an above average eye appeal.

Specifically with the numbers, the chances of finding a gold cac $20 Liberty are fairly scarce as there are only 161 total $20 Liberty Double Eagles across all Type's I, II, and III.

Great set. Certainly a worthy box of 20 that should be fairly resistant to market fluctuations

    Very nice $20 Lib set!!!

I also dabble in some of these gold CAC stickered PCGS $20 Libs (have 6 of them) as well as other denominations . I bought many of them over the years before CAC came into existence.

they are fun to collect as well as enjoying the double play of having gold bullion support the value of these slabs.

On the other hand, a high gold bullion value of these gold stickered slabs can reduce the premium of these desirable slabs!! A strange outcome!
