Another disaster for coins

rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

I saw this pop up on my news-feed....unbelievable. I prefer 'as minted' coins... not the disaster this stuff produces. Cheers, RickO

Since I don’t collect coins that have been given details grades for improper cleaning, perhaps it will make my collection more scarce and valuable. Although I hope it only gets used on low value stuff.

From the reviews people are using it to polish all sorts of things but not coins. Maybe they should retool their advertising to what people are actually doing with it?

  • baseballjeffbaseballjeff Posts: 1,082 ✭✭✭

Maybe we should all work together and write a review regarding that product?

And according to the reviews, it's a five star product. B) (You might need to the shades to look at your coin after you have ruined it.)

Just think! For only $9.95, you can do tens of thousands in damage! :s

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

The reviews seem fake. Nobody gets all 5 stars from all reviewers. Also the reviewer names are similar and there is NO WAY to leave a new review. Also note the highest rated silver polish on Amazon only have 4 stars out of 5.

They may be fake. Many are. Even so it is odd that even their fake reviews aren’t involving coins but other uses. Makes the coin angle seem odd.

I just saw a flea market vendor doing up some silver coins with simichrome from a tube. I walked on. Peace Roy

When my father decided to collect Art Deco, the first thing he did was learn how to identify prints. My mother was a fine art artist so they understand lithographs and other methods artists used to create copies of their own art.

I would hope that anyone planning to collect coins would learn how to identify all variants. The people that can tell if a coin is real or a fake appear to have invested a large part of their life developing their skills. That is why I prefer to purchase from known and trusted experts.

When I was a kid I was poor and had to use a pencil eraser. :'(;)

You had a pencil, no need to brag... I had to use a knife to cut my hand to use my finger to draw with my blood. :D
