Platinum Night

Strange, people here used to always start threads about the big show auctions.
Nobody bid at Platinum Night tonight???
How’d you do? I am 0/3 so far. And not for lack of trying (very hard!).
Oh well, more money to spend on house repairs!
The sale was over $6 million for like 300 lots.

I bought two nice ancients and was outbid on a third, making it a surprisingly successful sale for me!
Very strong bidding

Agreed to buy a major coin yesterday but not in Platinum night

I had success on a German States lot. I think this was the first time in 15+ years I was successful in the platinum night.
Oh, please share details...
Can’t until I pay for it
But happy to sell you some CIII coins to fund it!

@1960NYGiants sorry Gene. I'm in the same boat.
What comes to mind is the old saying about retail investors. Buy high. Sell low. I wonder if that's how this will end?
@MrEureka usually has some good insight. Waiting for him to chime in here....
I guess I can't resist an invitation like that, but it's pretty much the same as always as far as I'm concerned. Just buy the right coins and don't sweat it.

When the "right coins" are three times what you thought they would bring (and maybe twice what you wanted to pay), never mind the estimates, what then???
It depends. Do you figure your bids based on what the coins are worth to you, or based on what you think they might be worth to someone else? Those numbers can be very different.
Regardless, if the coin is special enough, you have to consider the possibility that you figured the coin wrong. Quickly.

I was maybe going to buy a France Piefort platinum (modern) and these in the 5f size went for 4600+ juice! I thought they were unloved...
Well, just Love coins, period.
More than three years since my last purchase at HA, but I finally scored a nice example of a chopmarked Japanese Trade Dollar for the world type set with chops.
