Have you noticed anything funky about the USPS recently??

keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

Apparently PCGS has noticed, all my packages have been coming via UPS. I guess what I hear on the news is real.

    Yes, complete slowdown.

Could not believe what happened last evening...

Very late delivery, not my regular carrier (who is awesome) but some postal employee I have never seen before.

I bring up a signature priority to go out to a client and ask for a scan. His response, "I do not have a scanner."

He hands me my mail and starts to pull away, I ask what about the packages that were out for delivery yesterday and not delivered?

He then bends down to a bin and pulls out my two late packages and scans them with a scanner, WTF???

I will be having a discussion with my regular carrier when he comes back., Perhaps the postmaster.

Tracking still has not shown up for my priority he picked up last night.

PCGS started using UPS a while ago.

PCGS started using UPS a while ago.

didn't see that thread and my earliest package shipped within that time-frame was July 21st. yesterday's delivery was the third, so I thought to ask. I will say this, my UPS driver is a young woman who's easy on the eyes and friendly but until a few weeks ago we had only waved at each other as she drove by. when she made the first delivery she knocked to confirm, had never been to this address before. all things considered the USPS and UPS times are about the same coming from PCGS, the only difference being that the UPS comes by about three hours later.

Here on Tuesdays they only deliver junk mail, when asked they told me Tuesdays are a hold back day and you will get the important mail on Wednesdays?? This has been going on for about 8 months.

Mail is so slow I’ve decided to quit shipping stuff. Next step is stuff never showing up like in that Seinfeld episode when Newman was hiding bags of mail in the storage room.

Pretty sure that happened recently IRL.

It has been horribly slow...I sold a '79 Mint Set (and you know how hard those are to sell!!) on eBay back on July 8th...shipped that day. Scanned in Ft Worth and a couple of days later showed it was in Nashville, the destination. Then nothing. A few days later it was scanned again in Ft Worth and then nothing after that. So finally this past Friday I had enough and refunded the buyer. Of course it shows up on Saturday....but is still showing in eBay as undelivered. Luckily it was not a large $ transaction but still the delivery issues sucked the fun out of selling a '79 Mint Set!

    January 2020
A Virginia mailman has pleaded guilty to stockpiling thousands of pieces of mail in a storage locker because he “can’t make time” and felt “pressured” to complete his route, according to a new report.

Jason Delacruz, who works for the US Postal Service in Chesapeake, pleaded guilty to delay of mail, local station WAVY reported this week.

Back in May, someone filed a complaint with the USPS Office of Inspector General after spotting Delacruz unloading mail into a public storage facility in Virginia Beach. That person took several photos of Delacruz and his license plate, according to the report.

Delacruz initially told agents he didn’t go anywhere after leaving the post office that day — but after he was confronted with the information about the storage facility, he allegedly fessed up.

A former United States Postal Service mailman was sentenced to six months in prison Tuesday after he stashed, destroyed and delayed more than 44,900 pieces of mail over two years. Most of the letters that 34-year-old William Morse hid were kept in his dead mother’s home or a rented storage facility in Dawson Springs, Kentucky, according to The Courier-Journal.

“He wanted to speed up his route,” city police Capt. Craig Patterson told the paper. “I think he was lazy.”

Yeah, the federal government is withholding overtime pay and implementing other measures to deliberately slow down mail service. I'm not going to get into the politics behind it, but I will say that as a taxpayer who values and relies on timely USPS service, I am more than a little annoyed by it. There are stories all over the Internet for those who care to read more.

Received a package 2 weeks ago from a dealer forum member that clearly stated signature required and it was crammed into my mailbox. I was home all that day and USPS did not come to my door as stated/required by the dealer. I'm fortunate that I live in a decent neighborhood where mailbox content theft is very rare.

I have not had any issues with mail or packages in the last four weeks....Have purchased several (six) items, all U.S. based, and have received them all. Also received two UPS packages this week... One was ordered 8 days ago, the other three weeks ago. All is well in RickO mail land... ;):D Cheers, RickO

I spoke with my long time carrier yesterday and was told: "We have a new Postmaster General and he has sent down to us new directions. On one day I am to deliver postal mail only and the next day I'm to deliver packages." She told me the ORDERS came from Washington through Harrisburg (PA) to our Post Office. She has no choice in the matter, period. It's to be done Washington's way or the highway. Also, on the day she delivers 'postal mail', envelopes and such, she is to go off shift 45 minutes early and on the day she delivers packages she must work overtime. I have known this lady for many years and have no cause not to believe her. This is all I know on the subject.

I have an attorney client whose office is 45 minutes away. They have sent me 6 checks this year. 2 were lost and had to be re-issued. They were never delivered. Pre-pandemic, I'd receive their check in the mail the next day. The 2 that were lost still have not shown up since April and May. The re-issued checks took 3-4 days to travel 45 minutes away. Lol

Baltimore district USPS office confirmed 118 positive cases of Covid-19. Mail delivery in the area has slowed with many not receiving mail for over a week on several occasions.

the trouble with all this is that Congress always seems to meddle in the PO's business but not one cent of the USPS budget comes from any Congressional Appropriation, the USPS pays for itself. that presents a strange situation: Congress and the Executive Branch can make different stipulations on the service, control it, yet force the USPS to pay for everything they require it to do.

The PO used to be a fun place to work in the 90's. Midnight clerk shift, get the carrier's mail ready, off by 7:00 am, surf all morning. Now? I'm embarrassed to have even been associated with it. Another instance of "oh for the good ol' days!"

Just might have something to do with the new Postmaster's background (or lack thereof).

He recently ended overtime. That's probably what motivated all the carriers to do a better job.

so you're suggesting maybe like the "Blue-Flu" might be what's happening?? :)

Back at the start of the pandemic in March I was looking for a project to do whilst I was in house arrest due to Covid, so I bought some 1:87 scale model kits of Russian wooden homes for my model train from a seller in Russia. He shipped them in April, I tracked the registered as far as Moscow on Russia Post and then the package seemingly disappeared after 29th April. May came and went, June came and went. Then into late July, with the last tracking showing it was in Russia I contacted the seller and they refunded the dosh and filed a claim with Russia post. Then last Monday, I get a notice in my PO box that I have a registered parcel for pick up. I then looked on the USPS site and they got around to updating the tracking! The parcel had been parked in NY customs from the 17th of May and postal tracking was never updated showing their lack of progress until it was delivered last week. I sent the dosh back to the seller, not postally of course.

Of course it is said that the slowdown has to do with politics and perceived issues that might arise with mail in voting in November.

They treat the post office like they treat public education. The legislative branch and the executive branch can mandate regulations and expenditures for both, but fail to fund them.

we all have out PO horror stories but what is happening now/recently seems to be system wide and, dare I say, coordinated.

my PO horror story --- I once mailed my only submission ever to ANACS. it made it all the way to Colorado, through grading and was delivered to me without any notice from the PO that it had left where I mailed it and without ANACS ever acknowledging that they had received/graded/shipped anything.

While emergency funding is being discussed, no ANNUAL funding originates from the congressional budget. The virus has severely curtailed the USPS budget. Unclear how much chaos will ensue with the new Postmaster General trying to “fix” the postal system.

L&C Coins packaged a bubble mailer to arrive July 20th. It got as far as LA distribution then fell off the face of the earth.

I thought you meant the rash of stolen or lost articles reported lately. Delivery through the distribution facilities is poor, but the local delivery is fantastic.
