I'd grade them both ... be very careful
Both are known to have deceptive counterfeits and both look a little off, although the pictures are tough to get a good read on

I grade them “much better pictures needed for meaningful opinions”.

I agree with MFeld... those pictures are not grading candidates. Cheers, RickO
Is this any better Mr Feld ?

You’ve been at this long enough to have an idea as to what constitutes good pictures for purposes of grading opinions.

Need better pictures.
I use my I phone 8
That’s the best I can do
I don't have any fancy cameras.

Both are coins you should never buy raw unless you are an expert in identifying the counterfeits.
In my case, a professional photographer.
Consider undertaking the following investigative steps....
-Start by weighing both coins
-due a Google search as there likely are counterfeit images online that you could examine and make comparisons with your two coins
-search Heritage and or PCGS to get images of examples that have been auctioned and make comparisons; and
-depending how part of the investigation unfolds, you may consider contacting the seller to find out if there is a return policy
-While if the grade may not be what you think, I am doubtful that a return would be good form, but if they are not genuine that is a different story.
Hope your investigation goes well

both look to be unc details from the photos
should be certified to make sure they are authentic but first glance they look fine
Three predictions.
Spanish Trail will grade 64.
Hawaii will grade 63 or 64.
Dan is going to buy an iPhone 11 this week or we're going to laugh him off the boards.

I use an iPhone 11. It’s amazing. I just pulled this out of pocket and shot this to illustrate the point.

How can you guys give these straight grade or mid to high MS grades with these photos? lol
I pass.
FWIW... I e used a Cannon Powershot (12.1 megapixel) on macro with ok success. Once I finally got the white balance set, it was a pretty good set up. That said, the newer phones have cameras that are probably better.

I'll take that bet!
I don't think the problem is with his phone. I think his problem is with his lighting. Without proper lighting, it's hard to evaluate the luster.

If I found both coins to be real (as in not counterfeit) than I would grade them $65 each. I'd be willing to pay $65 each buying them sight unseen.
You do realize these are both the keys? As raw coins, you are still looking at $1000 for the pair easily...probably $1500 and up for the pair actually.
With the Hawaii Commemorative, there should be a line (die polish) extending from the robe underneath the armpit of the warrior on the reverse. If it's not there, it is not authentic.
Goes to show about grading from pics, when I saw the first pic of the Hawaii I thought XF-details, the subsequent pics were much better.
I'll take that bet!
and you're gonna regret,
cause I'm the best that's ever been!!!
oops, wrong thread.
Is this known ot be on ALL Hawaii commems? It looks like most of them on coinfacts have this but some don't, could just be the imaging.
This is a very good marker to know if 100% have it.
@bidask I think your issue is lighting more than the camera. Low light increases exposure time and any movement of the camera will blur the image. Try using a non-black background as well.
Collector, occasional seller
I use an iPhone and although my pictures aren’t close to being professional quality they’re halfway decent. I use a tripod and I take my pictures inside on a sunny day. Experiment with your camera’s telephoto lens and the distance between camera and coin. I edit my pictures with PS Express which is free.
63's to 64's. Which most commems are. They're either well circulated as a rule or choice unc or better....most were saved. Shouldn't be too hard to stay away from fake commems if you've looking at that series for the past 20-30 yrs. You probably got them as slider AU's or low BUs. If real, you'll do good.
Yes, there were only 10,008 made so they should have come from one pair of dies.
I couldn't make a call on grade or authenticity from the images.
my iphone 6s takes way better pictures than that and your camera is 5x what mine is. #1 reason for bad pics. - lighting #2. wrong settings.
try a window with a lot of light during the day but NOT direct sunlight on the coins. bright ambient light and the picture quality goes through the roof. my iphone 6s looks like a iphon 2s if there isn't enough ambient light. a decent lamp at the right angle can do but takes more practice. 2 lamps should get you in the money.
shoot new pics, delete ALL of your other images in this thread and re-upload new pics in the op.
have a good night!
