Dahlonega gold. What do you make of this?

Was looking at a 1852-D $5 Liberty Half Eagle, and then I go to look it up and get the result that PCGS has no record of the certification number. Uh oh!

I would call customer service before pulling the trigger. It may be just a glitch, but be careful.
CACed!

If they pulled the coin from both PCGS and cac chances are an investigation by law enforcement may be underway.
Yes - I'd tread carefully with this one.
The seller is reputable. I just did business with him recently. Since he's based in Vegas, one possibility is that he resubmitted the coin at the recent show there and simply forgot to update eBay and his web site. Contact him and I'm sure he'd be happy to explain the situation.
I messaged him. He said he sent it for an upgrade attempt.

So it didn’t upgrade and he listed it on eBay as undergraded. Very nice.
I’ve bought from them before, a smooth transaction. Great person to talk with, looking forward to meeting him at a show. He sent a coin on approval with just a few references without knowing me. Will do business with him again anytime.

Be careful.
I’ve experienced this with one of my coins recently. While at PCGS for reconsideration, the cert number is withdrawn temporarily while being graded. It will reappear after the grading and quality review process is complete. I am familiar with this particular coin and the seller-with whom I have had excellent dealings.
Interesting how this unfolded. Thanks for everyone's input. Peace

Now this is an interesting situation. Good move to check the certification number, and when not there, caution. Contacting the seller reveals a logical explanation. Various forum member inputs support the seller's integrity. So, now we watch for the final disposition at our host.....The system works - when worked. Cheers, RickO
Seller was prompt to respond. Says he is waiting to hear from PCGS on the regrade efforts, and will let me know the outcome.
Thanks for the many helpful comments. Especially the ones vouching for the seller’s integrity. Just like how we have systems in place to communicate dealers to avoid, it is good to hear from forum members who can speak to their positive experiences with dealers. 👍
As an aside, being from SC, I have always wanted to add examples of Dahlonega and Charlotte gold to my collection. Any suggestions or pointers appreciated.
Maybe this is more a reflection of the age (antebellum) and tendency towards circulating denominations ($1, $2.5, $3 and $5), dirty gold is the apt description for what is out there.

I would have simply sold the coin as is.
These are also affectionally known as DOGs (dirty old gold)
Just bought this one. I have a thing for 'Rebel Gold' - hope you like it.

Awesome coin!
I have done recent business with this dealer and they were very accommodating and prompt, I would recommend them to anyone.
