79 YEARS AG0- DIMAGGIO RELATED

On this date 79 years ago July 16,1941 the last game of Joe DiMaggio's hitting streak occurred. The following day on July 17th he went hitless. The most astounding thing about that streak was he continued another 16 game hit streak immediately after being shut out. 72 hits in 73 games-- as a lifelong Red Sox fan I have a deep appreciation for this feat. While Ted Williams stats were better that year, as history has now taught us -- let's just say it was not the first or last time "personality" decided an MVP vote.
In honor of it-- posting one of many items I own of him. Feel free to share your own

I actually have a couple of books about that streak that I haven't gotten around to reading yet, I bought them from amazon a while back. I might just have to break them out and start reading about this great story. I've always been fascinated by that record.
I believe he had a deal with the Heinz 57 (Catsup) variety company if he made it to 57 games.
Hello Joe, whatta you know?
We need a hit so here I go.
Ball one (Yea!)
Ball two (Yea!)
Strike one (Booo!)
Strike two (Kill that umpire!)
A case of Wheaties
He started baseball's famous streak

He's just a man and not a freak,
Joltin' Joe DiMaggio.

What?!?! That ‘38 DiMaggio is insane! Incredibly nice piece UFFDAH!
Speaking of DiMaggio books I have to chime in with Summer of ‘49 by David Halberstam. Fantastic look back on DiMaggio’s greatness and how important baseball was to society right after the war. Highly recommended.
I have one DiMaggio card and am really proud to have it in my collection.
UFFDAH as usual your's leaves me speechless. That is simply gorgeous!
@brad31 - that is a smashing card of Joltin Joe!! Such and old card and retained its beauty and integrity.
