Masks are mandatory here. All bars are closing down again tomorrow. Huge uptick in COVID-19 cases. Hope it's gone by then.

I see no issue to attend if wearing a mask. Things just aren’t that crowded

I attended many of these in 2018-19 and would love to go to this show but will not. I'm most anxious to see how it goes, and hope it goes well for PCGS and all who are attending. Hope to get back to these shows in the near future.

    @ElmerFusterpuck , I'll miss seeing you there!

The death rate from this disease has reached the point where it should no longer be classified as a Pandemic. Just sayin

If I were going, which I'm not, I'd be wearing an N95 mask. Don't like the idea of breathing recirculated air for an extended period of time. Would want max protection. FWIW.

What’s death rate got to do with being a pandemic?

i just read an article on it. It is one of the criteria. Makes sense to me

Coronavirus deaths in the country have nearly reached a level where the virus will cease to qualify as an epidemic under Centers for Disease Control and Prevention rules, the federal agency reported on Friday.

The CDC qualifies a disease outbreak as an "epidemic" if the number of deaths attributable to the disease exceeds a certain percentage of total deaths per week. That threshold for pneumonia, influenza and COVID-19 fluctuates slightly depending on the time of year, ranging from around 7% at the height of flu season to around 5% during less virulent months.

“Confirmed coronavirus cases are growing faster in Arizona, Florida and South Carolina than in any country in the world not including the U.S. This week, California recorded its largest single-day death toll since the pandemic began. In Mississippi, major hospitals are running out of ICU beds as cases balloon.“

Sarcasm alert. Everything is just dandy. Let’s just downplay this and maybe it will go away.

Good grief we are still knee deep in the first wave in some parts of the country. There will be a second wave.

Anyways, there are always 15-20 dealers at non pandemic shows. Have to wonder out loud how many dealers will set up. On Site grading is one of the main draws. Will they eliminate this?

    According to the dictionary, nothing:

    pan·dem·ic
    /panˈdemik/

    adjective
    adjective: pandemic

(of a disease) prevalent over a whole country or the world

Seemingly we can’t talk about COVID without it turning into a political discussion. This is regrettable. @stockdude_ is not wholly wrong. The CDC is making noise like this. By certain criteria, a regional or global disease below a certain threshold of severity or mortality doesn’t qualify as an epidemic (or pandemic). Case numbers are huge, testing volume is huge, death rates are WAY lower than models predicted (and are continually being adjusted downward), but there has been a slight uptick in deaths over the past few days which may be a lagging response to increasing rates of disease. Time will tell.

Having had it all around me in the hospitals where I work, I’m becoming MUCH less concerned about it. Yeah, it’s a horrible disease but we already have LOADS of those. Yeah, it can kill you but there have always been plenty of things that can do that. I remain open-minded about it, but have stopped being fearful.

I think the show could be held safely enough, but I doubt those with medical conditions or advanced age would want to attend. In my hospital we’ve completely given up on N95 masks except in the presence of suspected or known disease. Another hospital where I work has given up testing asymptomatic elective pre-op patients. As for some hospitals being at capacity, this happens routinely enough during flu and RSV season, so it’s not unprecedented at all.

It is playing out very differently depending on where you live. What is perfectly rational for one area might seem irresponsible in another. The news and other media present a skewed version of reality (as they always do) and they tend to report on the hardest-hit areas, never those where things are OK. Fear sells and advertising revenue is king.

Its funny how people get agitated when you present any news that may be slightly positive . I guess thats their problem. Lets get back to coins

If it was actually good news I’d be very happy about it and you’re right about getting back to coins. Out.

Doc..not worrying about a second wave because we will still be in the first come the fall. Covid being aerosolized could be the deal breaker. Would not want to be a kid in a school in Florida in a couple weeks.
