Please pardon my stupidity, but can someone explain what would be different for me as a simple eBay seller with Managed Payments. I sell very little per year. Here'e the story: I have a checking account. I have a paypal account. When I sell an item, the money from the buyer goes to my paypal account. I then transfer that money from that paypal account to my checking account and after a few days, I withdraw that money with that banks's ATM card.

Now, please explain WTF will change ? Thank you !!!

Something else to consider is if they will depositing into your main checking account that you use to write checks/have auto withdrawls for bills etc. A lot of people, myself included, don't want to give Ebay access to that money. If there were a breach in their system, you could potentially be out that money, or if you have a return and can't cover the amount with what ebay is holding for those few days before they release to your bank, ebay will withdraw the money straight out of your checking account without telling you.

Well, as an update so far this has gone surprisingly well. For example I received a rather large payment on Tuesday. EBMP said it was completed on Wednesday, funds sent on Thursday, in my bank on Friday. Other transactions have gone similarly.

So best solution would be to open a sperate checking account solely for Ebay?
    Thanks

    PRETTY DISTURBING DISCOVERY TODAY:

was reconciling the previous month today and found a pretty big discrepancy.

hit the "call me" feature on the concierge service, wait time was 48 mins btw, as they added another round of accounts today. 28th seems to be the day each month. anyways, it appears the total fees are actually closer to 13.5-14%.

the 11% (11.5% after taxable rate) quoted was JUST the selling fee. ebay is ALSO charging a 2.5% fee for the managed payments program.

possible upside. was told you do get a 10% discount at the end of the month if you are a top-rated seller, however that has yet to be reflected in my fees. ebay rep did not have the answer as to how long it takes for this to be done. my guess is most likely a month out. similar to comcast credits since they seem to be running alike these days.

    enjoy.

this is not correct, there is 1 fee of 11.5% if you are a store subscriber and 10% discount for top rated on the entire fee, but it is on the entire amount including sales tax. I just quickly calculated on $200+ item down to the penny. also, ebay is taking the fee and giving the discount upon payout so the amount you receive is the net amount and you will not be charged or receive a credit at the end of the month

I've been on managed payments for a year. Since they converted to the 1 fee structure in July I have done over 15K in sales so I would probably notice if they were taking an extra 2.5% .

I do not have a bill for FV fees at the end of the month so there is no credit to be sent back. Sounds like you are only partially converted at this point if you are still getting an eBay invoice for your FVF's at the end of the month

  • Not sure about options, but I not using EBay in the future. Have moved several items at rock bottom prices and with ebay fees on top, it becomes futile. Redeeming take back is I have helped other collectors acquire some needs. This forum, Net54, and Blowout will be my go to’s for selling. Are there other methods, forums etc that are being used? Thanks for any replies.

they aren't taking out the 11% and 2.5% in two separate charges, its one combined deduction. i can tell you w/ great certainty, that unless you are selling vehicles or musical instruments, the total fees you are paying are roughly 13.5%.

care to share a screen shot from your seller hub?

  • sure

figured it out, seems we both are right. the key difference is that you have been in the program for a while and the terms and conditions have changed. it seems if you were in one of the initial phases, you also could have opted out for good. they have since changed the terms several times now.

this was off a $1324.99. puts the rate at roughly 12.5%.

and this gets us to the million dollar question. am really going to get that 10% credit at the end of each month? because if it's already factored in, that puts my rate at 13.5%. the fact that they haven't provided me a "seller hub" yet which shows the full breakdown and/or overall tallys coupled w the fact i haven't got the same story from anybody there yet is concerning.

long story short, there's a reason they are rolling this out in phases. and my best guess is they are testing the limits as to what sellers will put up with and what they can charge.

eta: btw, do you have a seller dashboard yet? like the old style? or do you still have to hit 9 tabs to get to the small section that only lists transaction by transaction? ie, no overall view w overall tallys?

  • My fees jumped quite a bit. I'm in line with Blurryface at almost 13%

  • I like many things about eBay. I don't like it as I used to, however. I am browsing other options. For me, it may be less expensive to set up my own auction software on my website.
I'll lose some audience for sure, but nearly 70% of my buyers are repeats. I have decisions to make in 2021.
Ebay was great. Greed...once again...seemingly has started the ball rolling on its demise.

OK, looks like I'll finally be forced to do this by EOY. Is it still just as bad or have things improved? They're offering me a $15 coupon if I do it by 12/1.

For everyone freaking out over handing out bank info - chill. You send the same info every time you write a check. PayPal has that info if you've linked your account there.

    It's not a big deal.

i have quit listing things for the most part. it's not worth the hassle. ive found a decent consignor that's offering 2% less than the ebay fees.

here's the kicker. everyone talks about all the new money thats entered the hobby. and that's true for the most part, but this new money is coming from new ebay users. from mantle to lebron, id say 75% of my sales lately have been from user ids w/ a feedback rating less than 20. accordingly, ive had a rash of returns from this segment as well. been fighting one guy on a $2K acuna card that has claimed 1st. he didnt order it. 2nd then when caught in his lie, tried to return it. 3rd. when his return-by date passed he then 4. went to bank and claimed unauthorized use. this was 50 days ago and im still waiting on the bank to make their decision, release funds to ebay and then release them back to me. keeping in mind, the $2K was already yanked and given back once.

long story short, sales are strong. but headaches and the "what-ifs" coupled w/ the transition of the payments has me calling it quits and letting someone else deal w/ the landmines.

if you do decide to follow thru, hold out. they will offer you more and more until you finally do. id hold out til it got to $100 bc in the end, youre gonna be forced to anyways.

For something that is certainly about to occur I would take the $15 and get it done now. They won't sweeten the pot!

I have just started the managed payments, and haven't had any issues. Get paid pretty much daily, I'm a small fry seller, good pricing on low value cards, with many repeat customers.

I'm almost done moving my collection, my good unopened wax will end up with one of the big boys. I took full advantage of this market this year, and glad to be moving on. Ebay has been good to me since 1998, and honestly, they can and will do anything that improves their profit. I think people should learn to adapt, and if you do, will be fine in the end.

This program in not a Henny Penny situation folks!

  • I know of a new market place that is just starting up because of ebay treatments of sellers and managed payments. You will pay $1 month per listing and you can use paypal. The only problem is it is a start up so traffic will be slow starting but it looks like a good option and maybe get in early.

I noticed a couple of sales went over 14%.... it was all due to the fee on tax. I complained to eBay... even wrote a complaint on the BBB. A % fee on the buyer's tax is ridiculous... I am in Canada and sell mainly to the US, so taxes can be quite high and unpredictable. That is the one fee that burns me the most.

Got another one of the warning emails and ebay messages about needing to sign up for managed payments on this Saturday ( 6/26/21 ) .

So i signed up for Managed payments this Saturday .
Same day i get offer for an item and i accept offer and send buyer invoice .
Buyer pays immediately ( Saturday afternoon ) .

I ship item Monday morning .

I find out my setting are for payments to go to my bank account 1 business day after receiving payment .
Today ( 6/29/21 ) , i get confirmation from ebay that the payment has been "processed " and they will be depositing to my ban in 1-3 business days ?

No wonder so many sellers have left ebay .
Really petty of them to be holding on to peoples funds like that .

With PayPal the $ was in my PayPal account immediately .I could use immediately to buy items on many different sites . I would transfer to my bank account and sometimes i would get them in my account the same day ( if done in the morning on a work day , $ would arrive late night ) .

Not complaining about the $, but the clear pettiness of them to hold onto funds for no valid reason.
