I regret to inform the world that I have dealt with more than a few scammers, schemers, liars, cheaters, and thieves , in my days. Would love to publish names. Though, most probably a violation of the terms of service. So, i won’t. You have my sympathies.

I wouldn't necessarily blame the BST, whenever a hot product emerges outsiders seem to find their way here. If it's one of the long term active members, I'm stunned by the events...hoping it isn't.

I am posting here just to get a perspective that could be different than my own. I have dealt with cheats, thief's, and every other type of person... I do not take it personally but I will not allow a fraudulent situation transpire.

If there was something wrong with packaging or contents there is an order of operations on how things are dealt with.

I am reticent to post the username of the buyer as I do not want the topic to get bammed. I am just seeing if there are statements made that are different than our actions. I am trying to learn. There are some long standing coin people in here that have dealt with stuff like this and I wanted to see if there were varying perspectives.

I was going to post the user to make sure there were not other people who dealt with the buyer because he ran an ad to buy 2019 reverse proofs for awhile but again not sure SOP.

Thank everyone for the feedback. I denied the refund and escalated the claim. I went step by step through our shipping procedure with Paypal. We will go from there.

    Take care folks

    J

Nearly 6 months later and he's reporting significant damage including a missing coin and wants $800 back? Yeah, that sounds legit. I'm sorry you have to go through this nonsense.

It actually helps the shipper. It will show the insurance claim agents, if they even request it, that he did his part in packaging properly and the blame will be put on the transit.

This assumes that the package shipped is the same package photographed. I would suggest that a seller willing to cheat a buyer might be able to think of a few ways around that.

One party can always try to cheat the other. This is why it is best to document as best you can and move forward for your part, whether buyer or seller. If the seller needs to pretend that they packaged securely, they are going to have a tough time showing the exact same items that were shipped. It would assume the seller had duplicates of everything. If the items were graded, then the picture cannot reveal those serial numbers unless there is serious photoshopping. This is not the buyer's concern, though. If buyer receives a damaged package, s/he should document and report right away to insurance, shipper, and shipping company (if separate from insurance). If the seller wants to doctor up evidence, it still does not put the buyer at fault for receiving a damaged package that was immediately reported. For every piece of evidence that the seller or buyer doctors, there are going to be a few scenarios s/he does not anticipate and could be caught. Then it gets worse.

You don't need duplicates or photoshop or anything else. You just need to film a fake wrapping and then not film the rewrapping of an empty box.

jmlanzaf, I know there are many ways one can go about it if that is the intent and goal. However, there are also multiple ways where one cannot cover all their bases either. For example, the time stamp issue. It can go on and on.

It is good to anticipate all the ways one can be on the receiving end of a scam, so that way, one knows best how and what to document as if its second nature.

I’m guessing the buyer is not a circle of trust member. I’d like to know who via pm please

    Thanks

Martin, I am sure we will know the identity soon enough. Let this case play out first.

Learned a lot by reading this thread - looking forward to reading the conclusion.

Could the same scenario happen if the buyer paid with free PayPal?

If that's the case I wonder if others will have issues who sold to him. I guess multiple packaging issue claims may raise a red flag with paypal though.

Good luck from here on out. Whole thing is maddening and I have no part in it.

no. Which is why no one should ever pay that way.

Just to share one event , this year. Recently a person bought an AU 58, 1912-S Gold half Eagle in a PCGS holder off of my website.
A month later PayPal does a charge back. Buyer disputed charge. I contact buyer who types back "SCAMMERS". I responded with all the proof of me doing my part to deliver.
He "LOLs" back claiming that he is the scammer. So he admits to committing fraud and finally PAYPow returns my money while they contact the guy's bank. Even with electronic confessions.... this guy walks.
A couple months go buy and PayPal writes me another notice. The bank is standing behind their customer and refused the charges.

I write the fraudster that I hope he cracked out the coin since I am reporting it stolen.
He writes back " bro ya need to write that chit off". (Paraphrased). That he fed his family "

Funny how he takes the meals from a working family and the world turns a blind eye.

Called his local police department. They won't even respond or take calls.
    Drain that swamp !

The $800 number could be the difference in value between a 69 and a 70, if indeed this person did send them in for grading.

I am sure that is what it is the 800 number is too random to be anything else

    Please read the entire thread:
    From the original poster:
"I am fighting it. No, the paypal claim says this"
One of the coins was missing and the other box was crushed. Order was not as described. The shipping box was not sturdy enough.

That is it. I wrote an extensive response and I escalated it already. I am not willing to refund any part of this."

I read it and am not buying it. If the box was crushed he would have known that at delivery..not discovered it six months later. Total BS

Oh, I'm not at all understanding where the $800 came from. If a coin was lost, the claim should be half the original price. But he's not claiming damage to a coin, he's claiming loss of the coin. And the current price difference between a 69 and 70 is more like $1000 also.

I would like to see the math. LOL
