It looks like wood? How and where was it made?

I’ve been on the hunt for a real St Eligius coin, the one made by Eligius himself before he was a saint. Unfortunately they’re rare and expensive. There are semi contemporaneous imitations out there but a real one would be preferred.

It's not wood...it's brass. I bought it off eBay about 20 years ago. Here it is in an eclectic little group -

Saint Eligius is the patron saint of goldsmiths, other metalworkers, and coin collectors. He is also the patron saint of veterinarians, as well as horses and those who work with them.

Now THAT would be awesome. I've never seen one and did not imagine they could actually be found and bought.

Struck in the late 1960's in bronze and silver as shown above. They were heavily advertised in Coin World when they first came out.

I have never seen one, and did not know there was a patron saint for numismatics....not surprising for me ;) Cheers, RickO

I paid $7-10 for my silver piece at an antique store maybe 5-6 years back. I forget the weight but must be over an oz.
