    That's really something else! Was it struck from slightly rusted dies? I ask because the images look to me like it might have that type of surface.

    Just think of all the times in its history that a collector/owner might have been tempted to clean that coin. Fortunately, all of them resisted the temptation and it remains a nice original coin!

    I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought about this. Instead of a bird dropping, I would have put the mint mark in the field to the right of the eagle's head.
